Thank you for shining a light on the power of summer this season!

Our hope here at the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) is that every young person is returning to school this fall ready to succeed because of your amazing work this summer.

We know that all students can grow, learn and thrive when we harness the power of summer and that was evident in the many ways communities celebrated, supported and spread the joy of summer during National Summer Learning Week and the whole season.

We also know demand for game-changing summer programs is high in our country but equitable access to them falls short. According to the recent America After 3PM Report by the Afterschool Alliance: for every child in a summer enrichment program (approximately 12.6M), one more is waiting; that’s an estimated 13.9M kids waiting to get in. Our kids can’t wait and they deserve enriching summer experiences every year which is why NSLA was thrilled to have U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona and Becky Pringle, National Education Association President amplify why summers matter more than ever in video messages this season.

Thank YOU for your part in helping to shine a spotlight on summer this season and we are grateful to the many partners who helped NSLA deliver the new DiscoverSummer.org, an online destination to help families and their children discover summer enrichment programs both in-person and virtually, right in their community.

Summer Learning & Enrichment Collaborative Virtual Session
Thursday, August 12 3:00-5:00 p.m. ET
This session will offer opportunities to reflect on the decisions we made this summer, how we can reimagine what is possible in creating safe, supportive, exciting spaces for students to learn and thrive, and how we can carry these lessons forward as we head back to school.

The session will begin with a conversation between Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona and a panel of inspiring students to discuss how they have been impacted by summer programs and offer their advice to education leaders for how to reimagine, redesign and rebuild engaging learning and enrichment opportunities throughout the year. Joining the panel will be two students from NSLA's Summer Learning Award-Winning Programs.

Representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will also join to provide the latest updates on guidance and resources for healthy and safe return to school.
