Nineteenth Sunday Readings:
First Reading — On the long-awaited Passover night, God's children offered the paschal sacrifice (Wisdom 18:6-9).
Psalm — Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own (Psalm 33).
Second Reading — By faith we join our ancestors in faith, as together in hope we journey toward our homeland (Hebrews 11:1-2.8-19 or 11:1-2, 8-12).
Gospel — The Son of Man will come at an unexpected hour (Luke 12:32-48 or 12:35-40).

Complaining that the world is evil is not Christian | |
During his trip to Canada last month, Pope Francis cautioned against taking a negative view of life. This “is often born of a faith that feels under attack and thinks of (faith) as a kind of ‘armor’ defending us against the world.” To bitterly complain with a “crusading spirit that the world is evil; sin reigns,” he warned, is dangerous, adding “this is not Christian for God … has a positive view of the world.”
As I noted in an earlier column, the evangelist Luke will be teaching us over these weeks until the end of the liturgical year to be on the watch so that we recognize the many ways God’s kingdom is coming into our midst. Luke’s underlying conviction is that good has won the day, for Christ has vanquished evil once and for all.
Christ is always doing something new, as Pope Francis often tell us. This is why we need to be on the lookout for blessings that come to us in ways that we never expected. The more we are thankful and believe that God’s kingdom is always breaking forth in our world to overcome and outrun evil, the less likely it will be that we will become cynical, and instead maintain our good humor, and live the joy of the Gospel.

Building Bridges
Mundelein Seminary has given us so much, having ordained more than 4000 to the priesthood in more than 40 diocese. Fr. Dan and former pastors from both Queen of the Rosary and St. Julian were ordained at Mundelein, and Fr. Louis has also studied there.
Let's help the Seminary continue building bridges to the future. Our donation of $5,000 or more (500 parishioners each donate $10) will not only help toward the replacement of the main entrance bridge, but earn Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament a memorial spot on a pillar of the new bridge.

In June and July, our Good Samaritan Summer Supper crew distributed 155 meals to those in need. While we hate to see so much need, we are so proud to be a parish of service. Thank you again for all you do to continue our parish hospitality for the hungry. Our next Supper will be Thursday, August 4th and we'll be serving a Summer classic: chili dogs and chips.

First Friday Adoration
Friday, August 5th is First Friday. Adoration begins immediately following 8:15am daily Mass (approximately 8:45am) and continues until the Closing Benediction at 11:45am. We hope you drop by to spend some quiet time with our Lord.

First Saturday Rosary
Saturday, August 6th is First Saturday. At Fatima, Our Lady asked us to go to confession, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary and keep her company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary. If we do this on the First Saturday of five consecutive months, Our Blessed Mother has promised to assist with all the graces necessary for salvation at the hour of death.

Teens know PJ from Catholic Heart Work Camp, and his latest album, Mercy, Mercy, debuted at #7 on iTunes. He has led thousands in worship including the Youth Rally and Mass for Life in Washington DC and World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland. Awesome People Read Books! | |
Save the date! Book Club returns from Summer Break on Monday, September 12th. The first book up is No Turning Back by Donald Calloway. It is an autobiography of a man who converted to Catholicism and become a priest. He was living a life of crime before his conversion. The book is 266 pages, and we may split discussion across two months. Connie G. says, "I read the first few chapters so far and had trouble putting it down."
This book is available on Amazon: Kindle version is $6.95, but if you're traditional, paperbacks are available for $13.95. Please let the parish office know by August 6th if you need a copy ordered.

The Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Holy Name Cathedral. Couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year are invited to participate.

Hard to believe it's nearly that time of year again, but school resumes on August 17th!
On Wednesday, August 10th from 4:00-5:30, all school families from preschool-8th grade are invited to meet teachers & staff, drop off school supplies, pick up gym uniforms and order new spirit wear. Plus, enjoy Hawaiian-style shaved ice from Kona Ice between 4:15 and 5:15pm. Please park in the back lot and enter through door 7.

Registration Open Now!
We are currently accepting registration for Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Religious Education 2022-2023. New this year, we are consolidating all religious education classes at our parish school, Queen of the Rosary. Queen of the Rosary is located at 690 Elk Grove Blvd, next to Queen of the Rosary Church, about a mile East of St. Julian Eymard Church. We are pleased to be able to offer online registration for grades 1 through 8 once again this year.

On August 21st, OLBS will be hosting Christian music artist and story teller, PJ Anderson at St. Julian Eymard. Many teens are familiar with PJ from Catholic Heart Work Camp and we can't wait to see you at the concert...bring a friend, or two or three!

Care Ministers must be mandated and may participate in one or more of the following activities: visits to the Homebound, prayer services at AMITA, AMITA Rehab, Alexian Village or Promedica (formerly Manor Care.)
