Building Bridges Together: George's Story Working together for a healthy community.

When George came to the food pantry at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church (TCPC) last year he had been homeless for several months, living under a tarp in the woods near Regency Square.   As the congregation began working with George, they knew food alone would not be enough. It was soon obvious he had significant health problems. It was then, that a TCPC member told George about CrossOver, and gave him the information he would need to enroll as a patient. When he came for his first appointment he was having trouble breathing, and a volunteer doctor quickly diagnosed him with pneumonia. We were able to prescribe him antibiotics and he was soon on the mend. Since then, we have continued to provide him with services to address ongoing medical issues.

"In addition to his initial pneumonia treatment, Crossover continued to assess George's medical condition for months and conducted numerous important screenings to ensure all aspects of his medical health were in good order. Crossover was very attentive and conscientious in follow up to test results that were indicative of potential health concerns. As CrossOver was helping heal George medically, the congregation at TCPC was helping him in other ways. In the past year, 22 households within TCPC have rallied to support George, helping him look for housing and employment. All of their efforts, and his, paid off. George now has a job, a car, and an apartment of his own! He has also become a TCPC member. CrossOver and TCPC helped build the bridges, but George was the one to work hard and walk proudly across them into a better life. We are thankful to partners like Three Chopt Presbyterian Church, who help us build bridges for a healthier community every day.
