Effective July 1, 2023, the adopted Building Codes for the State of Washington will change. Washington

State Amended Codes will change from the 2018 versions to the 2021 versions. The codes affected are:

• International Building Code (IBC)
• International Residential Code (IRC)
• International Mechanical Code (IMC)
• International Existing Building Code (IEBC)
• International Fire Code (IFC)
• Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC)
• Washington State Commercial Energy Code (WSEC)

In addition, the ICC A117.1-2009 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities will be updated to the ICC 117.1 -2017 version. There are several significant changes in the Accessible Code, which will affect the design of commercial buildings. 

State Amendments to these codes should be available after the last day of this year’s legislative session. The legislature is scheduled to adjourn on April 23, 2023. Please watch the city website for updates. 

All complete submittals received prior to July 1, 2023, will be vested in the 2018 versions of the codes. 

To qualify as vested, submittals must be complete with all required submittal documents received prior to the July 1, 2023 date.
