Sedro-Woolley Farm to School – Volunteer Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service brings people together for A Day on, Not a Day Off every January. This year, the Sedro-Woolley Farm to School program harnessed some people-power to expand the garden at Evergreen Elementary.
Volunteers built three raised beds for fruits and veggies that will be used in interactive garden lessons. Many of the supplies were donated or discounted from local retailers!

“Coming from a STEM school I realize the importance the garden can have on our students. I have been working with students in the garden for about eight years now. My background is in SEL (Social Emotional Learning) and now more than ever I see the garden as a space for learning and healing. A school-wide garden is a place for students to work across curriculums and grades. Community, health, and academic achievements are just some of the benefits the garden provides our school. Watching the volunteers, families, and students working together to improve our space filled me with joy. I am excited about the future of our garden and its impacts on our community.”
