donating your car to san diego habitat is simple and free!

Your vehicle donation is yet one more way that you can support Habitat for Humanity’s work in San Diego. It’s quick and easy to donate, and it may count as a tax deduction. We accept all kinds of vehicles, including boats, trucks, vans, RVs, and construction and farm equipment. Even if it doesn’t run, we’ll pick it up – towing is free. All proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle stay local and help families here in our community.

Since its inception in 2007, over 300 individuals have helped contribute $164,000 through our Cars for Homes program. Thank you for your generous support of our homebuilding mission here in San Diego County!
get a return on your investment in our community with the homebuilding investment fund

In partnership with Mission Driven Finance , San Diego Habitat has secured $1.4M for our Homebuilding Investment Fund. Join other individual and institutional investors to take advantage of this impact investment opportunity that will help us complete 30 homes in San Diego, El Cajon, National City, and Encinitas. The fund’s investors include direct private contributors, local foundations and donor-advised fund holders at the San Diego Foundation and the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego .

“Mission Driven Finance’s Homebuilding Investment Fund provides our donors a way to make a tangible impact on the affordable housing crisis in San Diego,” says Beth Sirull, president and CEO of Jewish Community Foundation. “And Jewish Community Foundation donors are making this impact in a relatively new way – by investing, rather than through charity.”

help us build homes and hope as a san diego habitat volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of San Diego Habitat. We need your help to make the vision of affordable housing a reality for hardworking families in San Diego County! From building on the construction site to general office tasks, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities available, and best of all, no experience is necessary.

And don’t forget! You don’t have to pick up a hammer to help. The ReStore is a great place to support our affordable housing efforts. Whether you want to assist with warehouse duties like inventory, assembly, and organization, or administrative duties like data entry, volunteers are always needed in the ReStore.
san diego city council votes to move forward with $900 million affordable housing bond measure

As part of our Cost of Home advocacy campaign to improve housing affordability in San Diego, we are actively participating in the effort to bring forth a $900 million homelessness and affordable housing bond measure on the November 2020 ballot. On July 31st, we joined The San Diego Housing Federation and other affordable housing allies at the San Diego City Council Rules Committee hearing, where we marched and rallied for affordable housing and the bond that would produce 7,500 or more units of affordable housing: 2,500 permanent supportive housing units, 2,500 units for extremely low-income seniors, veterans, people living with disabilities, and transition age youth; and 2,500 for very low-income families.

The Committee ultimately directed the City Attorney to draft the official language – a welcome victory. The next step is to return to Committee, then the full City Council, then to the ballot box where we will need a 2/3 approval.
