JANUARY 11, 2026

As antisemitism continues to surface in the media, on campuses, and within communities, JFS created a safe and supportive space for reflection and resilience. The “Coping with Antisemitism: Actions and Reactions” group recently concluded, bringing together participants for honest conversations, shared experiences, and practical strategies for responding to prejudice while staying true to core values.

One participant shared:

“Coping with Antisemitism, taught me to respond with confidence instead of silence. Hearing others’ experiences reminded me how powerful it is to speak up and support one another. Listening, learning, and practicing responses made me feel prepared and empowered.”

We are deeply grateful to Rabbi MJ Newman and Mitchell Cole, LAMHC for their thoughtful leadership.

What’s Next? We are working on planning a community-wide zoom discussion at the end of January focused on antisemitism and what’s happening around the world. Stay tuned for details. If you have any questions or want more information, email Jayme Schneider.

JFS is proud to recognize Esther Nabisere, a 12th grader at Greenwich High School, for her outstanding leadership and advocacy. Esther was recently selected as one of two Connecticut students to participate in the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program, where she will represent our state in Washington, DC this March.

Originally from Uganda, Esther moved to the U.S. in 2018 and has dedicated herself to supporting immigrants and refugees both locally and abroad. Her initiatives include organizing a book drive that collected over 1,500 books for a special needs school in Uganda and volunteering at an orphanage during summer visits. Her passion for education and equity reflects her deep commitment to creating opportunities for underserved communities.

We celebrate Esther’s achievements and look forward to seeing the impact she will continue to make. Congratulations, Esther!

We are deeply grateful to First Church Preschool for dropping off a wonderful collection of children’s books for our families. These books will hopefully encourage a love of reading among the children we serve.

Your thoughtful contribution helps us continue to provide resources that support learning and development in our community!

Start 2026 by giving back to your community. JFS offers varied opportunities to make a difference:

  • Compassionate Companions: Accompany older adults and individuals with disabilities to non-emergency medical appointments. Volunteers offer door-through-door support to ensure safety and care that all deserve.
  • Drive Collections: Help us support those in need by organizing drives for essential items such as non-perishable food, toiletries, and winter coats.
