SEPTEMBER 7, 2025

Yveline Dorlean, Case Manager at JFS, recently led a five-week support group for Haitian clients facing immigration-related stress, trauma, and isolation. The Uncertainty Group was born out of a need for culturally sensitive emotional support, offering participants a space to feel seen, heard, and empowered.

Each weekly session focused on a theme—managing anxiety, coping with change, or building community—and included mindfulness practices, storytelling, and guided discussions in Haitian Creole. The group quickly became a trusted space for connection and healing.

One powerful moment came when a participant who had remained silent in earlier sessions shared their migration journey. Their story sparked a heartfelt conversation on resilience and shared strength, reminding everyone of the healing power of community.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive. “This group reminded me I was not alone,” one client said. Another shared, “We could hardly wait for each session—it became the highlight of our week.” Yveline is now exploring ways to continue and expand the group, recognizing the deep need for culturally specific emotional support in our community.

Last week, JFS team members Emma and Waheed proudly represented our agency at the Norwalk Foundation of Hope Block Party, a vibrant community event filled with celebration, connection, and support.

We were honored to join local organizations, families, and businesses for a day highlighting the strength and unity of the Norwalk community. From sharing resources to building new relationships, it was a meaningful opportunity to connect with people we serve.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table and helped make the day so special!

“After my son’s long illness, the sudden loss of my brother, and my father’s heart attack, I was emotionally shattered. JFS was there when I had nowhere else to turn. Their therapists helped me heal, supported my marriage, and gave my family the strength to move forward. JFS didn’t just help me survive—they helped me find joy again.” -Behavioral Client
