Dreaming of homeownership? You're not alone โ€” and your journey may be closer than you think.

This National Homeownership Month, weโ€™re celebrating all the possibilities that affordable homeownership can create for families and future generations. Habitat LA is actively developing affordable homeownership opportunities across Los Angeles County, with new communities taking shape in Long Beach, Paramount, Santa Fe Springs, and Lancaster.

Several homes are nearly ready to welcome new families through their doors with applications opening in fall/winter 2026. Joining an interest list is the best way to stay informed about eligibility requirements, application timelines, and upcoming opportunities.

Juneteenth: Celebrating Progress, Continuing the Work

Advancing Black homeownership in LA.

Juneteenth, observed nationally on June 19th, commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved Black Americans in the country. It's a day to honor ancestors, celebrate the resilience and contributions of Black communities, and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equity.

That continued work remains especially important in housing. Owning a home is one of the most effective pathways to stability, generational wealth, and lasting opportunities. But Black households face disproportionate barriers to homeownership due to discriminatory housing and lending practices. That's why Habitat LA is committed to creating pathways that expand access, remove barriers, and help families build long-term stability.

Through affordable housing, community engagement, and programs like our Advancing Black Homeownership initiative and HUD-certified Pathways to Homeownership: Sankofa Series, Habitat LA is expanding resources that support Black families in pursuing their homeownership goals.

Through affordable housing, financial education, counseling, and long-term homeowner support, we're working to create more equitable pathways to homeownership. Together, we can help ensure more families have access to the opportunities that a safe, stable home provides.

Home is Love

Celebrate Pride with purpose.

Home is more than four walls โ€” itโ€™s a place where people feel safe. Vibrant communities are built when their members feel welcomed, valued, and free to be their authentic selves.

This Pride Month, join us in celebrating the spirit of belonging with Habitat LAโ€™s โ€œHome Is Loveโ€ collection. Every purchase helps support homeownership education programs and expands access to housing opportunities that empower individuals and families to thrive.

Power Women, Power Toolsยฎ: Powerful in Pink

Highlights from this yearโ€™s event.

Earlier this month, inspirational women from across Los Angeles joined us for our 21st annual Power Women, Power Toolsยฎ. The two-day event was full of energy, hands-on learning, and connection. Volunteers stepped outside of their comfort zones, challenged stereotypes, and made meaningful progress at our 8-home Orange Ave. development in Long Beach.

From framing to sanding and painting, these power women helped us get a step closer to expanding affording housing in the Long Beach community. The experience showed how impactful women are on a build site, highlighting a broader shift happening in the industry: more women are entering the skilled trades.

Thank you to our dedicated volunteers, construction crew, and sponsors who made this yearโ€™s Power Women, Power Toolsยฎ a success!

Construction Progress in Lancaster

A milestone worth celebrating.

Our Canyon Way and Parkview Lane developments in Lancaster are looking more like a future home these days! The site was recently graded flat, and a retaining wall was installed to separate the properties.

Other milestones reached:

โœ… Layout and plating

โœ… Framing for all walls

โœ… Exterior sheathing

โœ… Trusses and blocking

With major framing milestones complete, construction is moving steadily toward the next phase. Each step brings us closer to opening the door to stability, security, and homeownership for two deserving families.

Next project checkpoints:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Temporary power pole installation

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Shiplap installation

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿป Installation of windows and doors, and their trims
