BUILDING STRONGER PATHS BACK TO THE CLASSROOM

The Aldine ISD Transition Team visited our Juvenile Detention Center (Downtown), Youth Village (Seabrook), and Leadership Academy (Katy) to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences students face in a youth justice setting and during their transition back to their home campuses.

The visit provided the team with an opportunity to connect with staff, observe programming, and learn more about the support systems in place to help students succeed academically, emotionally, and behaviorally.

Members of the Aldine ISD Transition Team, including Todd Lindeman, Executive Director of School Administration; Paul Carampatan, Director of School Administration; Nora Guzman, Administrative Assistant; and Perlita Leija, Administrative Assistant, visited HCJPD facilities to learn more about the programs, services, and support systems available to students in youth justice care.

UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE

During their visit, the Transition Team had the opportunity to interact positively with students and observe the intentional and respectful approach that staff members demonstrate in working with youth. The team shared that what stood out most was the strong commitment each facility has to supporting students while maintaining a safe and structured environment.

The visit also provided insight into the unique role each facility plays in supporting youth at different levels and during different periods in their lives. Staff members were described as welcoming, professional, and transparent in explaining both the programs offered and students' day-to-day experiences.

SUPPORTING STUDENTS THROUGH TRANSITION

As students return to their home campuses, the Aldine ISD Transition Team works closely with students and families to help ensure a successful transition back to school.

The team conducts reentry meetings for every student returning to the district, reviewing educational history, attendance, behavior, credits, and graduation plans to determine the supports and school setting best suited for each student’s needs. They also work directly with families to help make the transition process as smooth and supportive as possible.

The team emphasized that this period can be especially critical as students adjust from a highly structured environment back into a traditional school setting while rebuilding routines, relationships, and confidence.

“Both HCJPD and Aldine ISD share the same goal of helping students succeed and providing them with opportunities for a positive future.”

STRENGTHENING SUPPORT THROUGH PARTNERSHIP

The visit also strengthened the Transition Team’s understanding of what students experience while placed in youth justice programs and reinforced the importance of strong partnerships between school districts and youth justice agencies.

By maintaining communication and collaboration between facility staff, district staff, and probation officers, multiple layers of support can be created to help students successfully reintegrate into school and remain on the path toward graduation and long-term success.

Through continued partnership and shared commitment, both organizations remain focused on helping youth build positive futures.
