Our Superstars in Education and Training program has undergone many changes during my years here, and I expect that evolution to continue as employer needs shift, technology disrupts markets and the workplace, and the post-World War II global order reshapes itself. The smallest generation in the last 90 years, the “Zoomers,” are now between the ages of 13 and 28, and their limited size will provide them with plenty of opportunities while placing additional stress on employers competing for the talent needed to fill key roles. As a state, we need to seamlessly connect secondary and postsecondary education, as well as trade and technical skills, with employer hiring needs quickly.
Superstars in Education and Training is charged with recognizing educational programs for innovative and impactful programming. This includes programs in our high schools, higher education institutions, adult learning settings, and within companies. These efforts strengthen our talent pipeline by expanding access, addressing identified gaps, and equipping young people and adults with career ready skills and training. Along with the publicity given through this award, the hope is that these programs will be replicated in other schools and industries so that we, as a state, continue building strong talent pipelines.
The 2026 Superstars in Education and Training application is now open! Deadline to submit is January 22, 2026 at 8:00 pm.
