The 2017 SCC Annual Meeting earlier month gave us the opportunity to reflect on our work over the past year (and for more than four decades) to build community by building bridges between diverse neighborhoods and people.

In this issue of our SCC eNews, we look at the ways our members are striving to break down barriers and build a stronger, more equitable community that is welcoming and accessible to all.

Sincerely,
SCC CEO Daniel LeBlanc

SCC's 2017 Annual Meeting: Building Bridges
More than 250 SCC members, board, staff and friends came together on March 8 at the SCC 2017 Annual Meeting and Dinner to celebrate the organization's 47th year of working for a diverse, sustainable Somerville.

Somerville Jobs Linkage Update: March 2017
There are two sides of Somerville Community Corporation's anti-displacement work: affordable housing and good jobs.

Without a job that provides a living wage and good benefits, Somerville residents can't afford the high cost of living in Somerville. These residents are increasingly priced out of the City.

Critical Moment for Somerville's Union Square
Union United had a powerful turnout at two public hearings this month that are critical for the future of Union Square.

At a March 5 hearing on Union Square zoning, over 30 people told the Board of Aldermen that developer US2 needs to commit to a community benefits agreement before any new zoning is passed. If US2 wants the development to move forward, they need to show us they are willing to treat the community as a partner.   Read more

CBA Summit
Union United is pressing developer US2 for a community benefits agreement for Union Square to proactively address the displacement of the neighborhood's families and small businesses.

Building on its first three years of planning, advocacy and organizing, the group charted next steps at the CBA Summit on February 25, 2017.   Read more.

Watch #SucceedtogetherSCC Videos
Check out and share the three #succeedtogetherscc videos that examine jobs, housing and financial stability. More importantly, they illustrate that encouragement, hope and help from local neighbors is what's needed to breakdown barriers and build community.
As always, we appreciate feedback. Be sure to join us on Facebook & Twitter for the most current info on what we're up to and how to get involved. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you soon!
