There’s no way to avoid it, the scaffolding is almost everywhere on campus. But I promise you, it’s a good thing.
It’s a sign that our elected officials are committed to making sure that we at Lehman will continue to offer a quality education to our students, and make sure that everyone of us who works here, can do that in safe, quality spaces.
Behind that scaffolding is a multi-year plan to renovate and upgrade many of our buildings. In fact, 15 of our 18 buildings are in the process of getting some sort of facelift or heavy-duty upgrade.
I won’t sugarcoat this. It will take a few years, and there will be some disruptions. The first set of office changes is happening as I write this.
But when this is all done, we will have the benefit of:
- New Roofs
- Better insulated windows
- Environmentally efficient air-conditioning and heating
- Safer facades and parapets
- Improved accessibility
We are conducting this work as quickly and safely as possible to keep the disruptions to a minimum. Supervisors in each affected area have been notified and are working out plans for temporary office moves. This may also mean changes to in-person requirements for non-essential administrators and staff.
We’re doing our best to keep you in the loop. We’ve developed a webpage that lays out the main construction projects and another page with more details like timelines and temporary office locations.
