The JFS Bennett Center for Behavioral Health welcomed community members, YMCA staff, and partners to our Open House at the New Canaan YMCA, celebrating the launch of our new on site Behavioral Health Services.

Guests learned about the support now available to individuals and families right in the heart of the YMCA community. This partnership strengthens our shared commitment to making mental health care more accessible, reducing barriers, and ensuring that support is convenient and comfortable. Attendees responded enthusiastically, highlighting the community’s need for insurance-based quality behavioral health services.

The JFS Bennett Center for Behavioral Health at the New Canaan YMCA is now open and welcoming new clients; we accept all major insurance plans. Please click here to fill out our confidential intake form.

JFS recently hosted an American Red Cross Teen Childcare & Babysitter Training at the Ferguson Library, offered through our Refugee Health Promotion and Youth Mentoring programs. Nine participants, ages 11–17, from around the world, took part in the four-hour session.

During the training, teens learned essential skills for safe and confident childcare, including basic infant and toddler care, CPR and first aid, recognizing safety hazards, responding to common emergencies, understanding child behavior, communicating with parents, and presenting themselves professionally as reliable sitters.

This program was designed to equip teens with practical, real-world skills and empower them to pursue meaningful summer employment, including the potential to begin their own small babysitting businesses. Each participant will receive a two-year training certificate.

JFS Norwich attended a legislative update featuring U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney. The Congressman provided an overview of federal developments affecting Connecticut and the region, highlighting issues relevant to community services and local families.

Following his presentation, attendees participated in a Q&A session and enjoyed a networking lunch, offering valuable opportunities to engage with regional partners and stay informed on policies impacting our work.

JFS Norwich is grateful to take part in these conversations and remain actively connected to the legislative issues shaping our community.
