World Bee Day is Saturday! Our master beekeeper, Kendal Sager, cares for the RCPL honey bees on the Library's rooftop. She invites kids and families to celebrate with her this Saturday, May 20 at 2pm at the Downtown Library.
Together we'll take a peek inside of a real working beehive (safely contained behind plexiglass) and learn about hardworking honey bees. We'll see and touch all the parts of the hive, make crafts and learn about the tools that it takes to be a beekeeper like Kendal!

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION
|
|
25 years ago, in February 1998, the Redwood City Library Foundation (RCLF) was formed to support the library. Library Director Jane Light approached former mayor Georgie LaBerge with the idea of a foundation to supplement library funds and finance library initiatives. They enlisted the aid of Sandra Cooperman and Jack Gennalch, also a former mayor, and the Foundation was born. The first foundation board included six members and provided funding for initiatives such as Traveling Storytime, Hearing Loop to support people with hearing loss, and the Daddy and Me program. A major RCLF endeavor was raising $850,000 for the opening collection of books and materials for the Redwood Shores Branch Library in 2008.
Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has raised almost $4 million for events, initiatives, and services such as the Teen Homework Center in the Downtown Library, the Fair Oaks Branch Library collection, Early Childhood Learning Centers in all libraries, Bridging the Digital Divide, Career Online High School, Writing Cats and Dogs, and more, including the Makerspace in the Downtown Library.
RCLF continues to thrive due to dedicated community support from individuals, organizations, local corporations, and grants. These contributions will enable the Foundation to provide another 25 years of support for our library! THANK YOU!
