Roger Carroll, the owner of Cowtown Graphics and Signs recently took his team out bowling to celebrate their "Trifecta". Roger describes the Trifecta as a celebration of TEAMWORK. It gets everyone in the office involved and keeps each person accountable and feeling included in the value of the company.
The Trifecta is a graph written on a big whiteboard in the office meeting space at Cowtown Graphics and Signs, pictured below, with the three components labeled so everyone can see if the team is on track each month. Four hash marks are shown on each half moon/graph to keep the accountability of the team members and even the customers. This is where we can ask ourselves, "Are we hitting these marks?"
Once the team completes 3 Trifectas in a row, they get a party. They have gone to places like Top Golf, Axe Throwing, and most recently, Bowling. These parties always involve food, a bar, and a game/activity. Mix a little skill and fun! This gets everyone to spend time together outside the workspace and connect like one big family.
The three things the team must do to complete a Trifecta:
1. Write Estimates
2. Convert (nurture) Estimates into Orders
3. Get the Product Out the Door
The team loves the parties and has so much fun, it's proven to be a huge success. People pay attention to numbers when you have them posted on the wall. We have the print shop people asking about the numbers. It brings the team together and makes each individual feel like they have the power to move the needle.
When you hire new employees, they want a piece of the pie of engagement. The Trifecta is great for retention. Working for Cowtown is different than any sign company you’ve ever worked for, but when they experience the culture, it seems too good to be true!
Roger reported his 2021 sales as $1.2 million and recently claimed that in 2022, by July, they have already hit $1.2 million in sales! He stated, "when the whole team clicks, the numbers are unbelievable!"
Aside from the Trifecta, Roger tries to make the work environment fun with smaller details too. He said they named their three bucket trucks:
· Yellow Dog
· Big Dog
· El Jefe
In addition to these fun details, the team members celebrate each of their wins at their staff meetings which they call "Power Tuesday Meetings". This is a means to congratulate people each week on a job well done.
