As we head into the heart of the holiday season, it's impossible to ignore the impacts the devastating  Thomas Fire  has had on our resilient Central Coast community. Our thoughts are with all of our friends, neighbors, colleagues, loved ones, and anyone else who has been affected by the fire. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all of the courageous first responders who are working around the clock to protect our community. Hopefully the latest Peoples' Self-Help Housing (PSHH) news below will help brighten spirits and give our PSHH family some things to feel good about.

We are incredibly proud of all that was accomplished in 2017, and hope to make an even bigger impact in 2018. Earlier this year, PSHH held a groundbreaking ceremony for Rolling Hills II, a new 30-unit affordable housing development in Templeton. In addition, families in both Atascadero and San Miguel received keys to new homes that they helped build through PSHH's Self-Build Program.

Over the summer, PSHH hosted programs at our various sites encouraging local children to start the new school year strong. We've also been working all year to update and improve various properties, allowing residents to thrive by adding more resources and facilities. And just this month we had the opportunity to brighten spirits for local children and families by providing holiday gifts purchased with funds raised through the Holiday Toy Parade efforts.

Looking ahead to 2018, we can't help but express our excitement for the housing opportunities ahead of us as we continue to work to provide affordable housing for families in our community to call "home". Of course, we couldn't do that without your continued support and we are beyond grateful for your commitment to supporting our mission to build homes and provide services to strengthen communities and change lives.

Holiday Toy Parade Brings Joy to
Children in Santa Barbara
Although the Dec. 13 festivities of this year's Holiday Toy Parade were cancelled due to the Thomas Fire and the resulting poor air quality, more than 220 children living at PSHH's properties in Santa Barbara and Goleta still received holiday joy with clothing and toys purchased with money contributed to the donation drive .

Thank you to the 2017 Holiday Toy Drive sponsors for your generosity:

It's not too late to pitch in! Monetary donations are still being accepted online at
Jardin de las Rosas Grand Opening in Santa Barbara
Due to the Thomas Fire and resulting poor air quality, the Dec. 7 grand opening celebration for the highly-anticipated Jardin de las Rosas (JDLR) in Santa Barbara was postponed until this spring.

We were able to show our gratitude to former PSHH CEO Jeanette Duncan (pictured at left) who traveled from the East Coast for the ceremony. She, along with a small group of staff and supporters, toured the new Jeanette Duncan Learning Center at JDLR.

The PSHH team is incredibly proud of all the hard work that has gone into this wonderful new affordable housing complex and is excited to reveal it to our supporters. Invites for the rescheduled grand opening will be sent when a date and time are available.
Thank you to Our Partners!
