Spotlight on Second Grade

Second grade is a pivotal year in a child's education. Students should be adjusting well to routines and gaining self-confidence daily. They should begin to become more fluent readers and develop silent reading skills. Chapter books are introduced and students should be able to read and comprehend main ideas as well as give details about a story fairly easily.

Writing should also be more developed and students should write in complete sentences with proper punctuation. In math, students learn about even and odd numbers, can make graphs, and subtract two to three-digit numbers.

The Vessels team is skilled at helping students reach these and many other milestones throughout their second-grade year. We want to push students to reach academic goals while continually building their self-confidence.
