Construction Update

As we head into the winter holiday break, we are thrilled to share the exciting news that the construction of our new Performing Arts Center will officially start on January 2! This monumental project represents a significant step towards fostering creativity and enriching the arts within our school community.

Key Features of the Performing Arts Center:

  • 1150-seat auditorium
  • Purpose-built spaces for the musical arts
  • New entrance to the high school

This endeavor is a testament to our commitment to the future, ensuring that the arts will flourish and resonate through the halls of Wilson for generations to come!

As we approach the start of construction, there will be changes to parking and the traffic flow at the Wilson High School campus. We will be sharing that information on our dedicated construction website.

Upcoming Mini-THON events

This month’s student spotlight featured High School junior, Kemi Ojikutu. Recently, along with 6 other students, Kemi won the President’s Volunteer Service Award! She is extremely involved in Voice Up Berks and the Youth Volunteer Corporation, both of which are nonprofit organizations. Kemi is also the Stand Together Against Racism (S.T.A.R.) initiative student ambassador, and is on the advisory board for the Lady Gaga Born This Way Foundation, where she works in content creation and normalizing mental health discussions and use of resources! She is extremely thankful to her teachers and peers at Wilson for their constant support and encouragement in her extracurricular involvements.

Accomplishments

Student Leaders

Student leaders from the WHS Mental Health Council had the opportunity to present at the 2023 PDE SAS Conference in Hershey, PA, for an audience of public school administrators from across the Commonwealth. Their session was titled “Better Together: Schools, Parents, and Students Supporting Mental Health and Wellness,” and they collaborated with district administrators from Wilson, Conrad Weiser Area SD, Wyomissing Area SD, and the Cook Center for Human Connection to share resources and ideas. Great work, Bulldogs!

Giving Back This Holiday Season

As we approach the holidays, many of our Wilson clubs have been holding events to give back to their community! The Youth Volunteer Corporation and A Moment of Magic Club partnered for a toy drive to donate brand-new toys to children at St. Joseph's Hospital. At their first drop-off, they collected 570 toys, and there are still many more to come!

A Moment of Magic Club also held a holiday bake sale at Redner’s this past weekend, raising a total of $334!

The Letters of Love Club, Moment of Magic Club, and LEO Club have all made many holiday cards to send to children at St. Joseph's Hospital as well.

Lastly, the Student Government held the stockings for soldiers and community closet events, where they organized donated goods.

It’s great to see our Bulldogs making a difference in the community!

#BulldogProud

In the last month, many of our high school and a few middle school students in the music department auditioned for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District band, orchestra and chorus groups. A total of 12 students were accepted across the three groups, and will be attending and performing in their respective 2023 PMEA District 10 music ensembles following the New Year! Three Students were accepted into all three ensembles, and four students were selected for two ensembles! Way to represent our Wilson music program!

ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

In a season filled with remarkable performances, Wilson Senior Jack Dendall, standing at an imposing 6'3" and weighing 265 lbs, has received the title of Offensive Lineman of the Year. Coach Doug Dahms is credited with describing him as "big and aggressive, moving people; pass blocks well; has gone against several blue-chip DE’s and more than held his own." Modeling his game after the legendary JJ Watt, Jack's tenacity has not only contributed to the team's success but has also earned him the admiration of peers and opponents alike. As he looks towards a future in Division 1 football, Jack Dendall's path is one of dedication, skill, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. Receiving Offensive Linemen of the year will help set the stage for a promising collegiate career.

Michigan Commits

Wilson High School field hockey goalie Catherine Wolf and forward Caroline Horace, both part of the Class of 2025 at Wilson High School and members of the X-Calibur club field hockey team, have committed to playing Division 1 field hockey at Michigan State University (MSU). Catherine's impressive 13 shutouts in 2022 highlight her goalkeeping prowess, while Caroline's spot on the BCIAA All-League Team in 2023 showcases her dynamic skills as a forward. Their transition to MSU promises to bring a winning combination of defensive skill and attacking finesse to collegiate field hockey.

Donate to Our Humanitarian Efforts in Jamaica!

This year, Wilson High School students are continuing the 25+ year tradition of traveling to Jamaica with Doug Dahms for a trip filled with both incredible educational opportunities, as well as much-needed humanitarian efforts.

The humanitarian portion of this experience is an incredible opportunity for our students and community to provide much-needed supplies to the people of Jamaica. This year, the team is seeking beanie babies, match box cars, toiletries, old iPhones with cord, and transformers.

Donations should be labeled "Jamaica" and can be dropped off at the Wilson High School Lower House Office. All donations are due by Janaury 3. As always, your support is greatly appreciated!
