During Black History Month, New Foundations celebrates the contributions black authors, historical black figures and black protagonists who have made reading more enjoyable and informative for both children and adults. Here are some books to check out for yourself and/or your children that highlight the experiences and stories of the black community:

  • The Parent-Student Remote Learning Handbook is available here.
  • FREE Tutoring Opportunities are available remotely from our highly qualified and certified teachers. If you are interested, please contact your student's teacher or check our website.
  • NFCS Is Here to Help! If you live in a shelter, motel, or even doubled up with other people due to loss of housing for economic hardship, you may qualify for certain rights and protections under the federal McKinney-Vento Act. If you believe you may be eligible, contact Ms. Davenny, School Social Worker, at 215-344-6410 x8 or mdavenny@newfoundations.org to find out what services and supports may be available!
  • Community Resource: The Free Library of Philadelphia has opened some branches of their libraries to patrons, including the Torresdale Library branch. The hours for in-person browsing can be found by visiting their page. Any questions, you can email Ms. Ann Hornbach, their head librarian, at Hornbacha@freelibrary.org
K-12 Yearbook Corner
We’re here to share some exciting news with you regarding the 2020-2021 yearbook. Guess what? You’re officially on the yearbook staff! Yes, you read that right! This year, more than ever, we need your help to create our yearbook.

Each week, you will have the opportunity to submit content for our yearbook using the Google Form links in the images below. Please take 5-10 minutes to complete the forms by clicking on the images below to submit your content!

  • Office Hours are available by appointment only for additional student support.
  • Please remember that if your child has a doctor appointment or other excused absence (court date, death in family, etc.) it will only be excused with an official note from the doctor or other office. You can submit scanned notes to attendancek8@newfoundations.org.
  • Parents, please make sure to restock school materials for Semester 2. Attached, you will find links to the K-4 Supply list and the 5-8 Supply list.
  • Activity Highlight: In celebration of Black History month, the 3rd-8th graders had an assembly with rapper and poet Baba B.A.R.S. Bomani. Baba taught the students about the writing process, prominent black historical figures such as Frederick Douglas, and encouraged students to represent themselves and their communities in their writing. He also played a number of his songs for the students and capped off the 6-8th grade assembly with an epic freestyle he performed by incorporating ten vocabulary words the students gave to him.

  • Juniors and Seniors, don't forget to check out our College/Career Visit Calendar to attend information sessions and network with representatives from different postsecondary options. The calendar can be found on the counseling page of our website and will be updated regularly in real time. Want to learn more about a postsecondary opportunity and don't see it listed on the calendar? Reach out to your counselor!

Bulldog Spotlight of the Week
Isabella Zelmanoff
Isabella Zelmanoff is a current high school student at New Foundations Charter School. She is one of two students who will be the first to graduate from NFCS in just three years, as she has skipped her junior year.

Isabella is involved in National Honor Society and Habitat for Humanity. Currently, she is dual-enrolled at Holy Family University. Additionally, she has been awarded a four-year scholarship that will cover almost 98% of her college cost.

Join us in congratulating Isabella on her achievements!
