Hall earns National Merit Status

Carl Junction High School senior Liam Hall has been selected as a National Merit Scholarship Competition Semifinalist.

About 16,000 students, out of about 1.3 million who entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 PSAT/NMSQT, were named as semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of the U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Liam is the son of Meggan and Jerad Hall of Carl Junction, Missouri.

U.S. News and World Report has just ranked CJHS as the #1 high school in the Joplin metro area!

In the latest 2023-24 report, Carl Junction High School has ranked 69th among the best high schools in the state and an impressive 5,433rd position in the entire nation! This recognition solidifies CJHS's place among the top-tier high schools across the country.

The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings evaluated nearly 25,000 public high schools from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. With a focus on six key factors, including state assessment performance and college preparedness, CJHS has proven its dedication to providing outstanding education and support to its students.

This achievement wouldn't be possible without the hard work of our dedicated educators, motivated students, and supportive community.

A Star-Studded Affair: Carl Junction's Hollywood-Themed Homecoming 2023

In a whirlwind of glitz and glamour, Carl Junction's 2023 Fall Homecoming took the stage with a dazzling Hollywood theme. Throughout the week, students and staff transformed the halls into a cinematic spectacle, embodying the spirit of Tinseltown.

Dress-up days spanned a spectrum from beach vibes to red-carpet elegance as students embraced the opportunity to channel their inner movie star. The hallways echoed with laughter and creativity as everyone brought their A-game to the themed festivities.

The homecoming's crowning jewel was Senior Mia Kim's coronation as the Homecoming Queen.

While the weather had other plans, raining on the parade, it couldn't dampen the CJ spirit. Although the Homecoming parade had to be canceled, the resilient Bulldogs found alternate ways to celebrate. The unity among the students, staff, and community members shone through, proving nothing can extinguish the CJ spirit.

Congratulations to the Carl Junction Primary K-1, Primary 2-3, and Intermediate schools for continuing the tradition of reaching GOLD-Level recognition for successfully implementing Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (PBS) practices.

PBS offers students support for behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When successful, the program builds positive social-emotional competence, academic success, and a healthy school climate. It also improves teachers’ health and well-being when they have the tools and support to build positive relationships with students. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable, and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

CJHS Band @ Parkview-Valla Marching Festival

Congratulations to the Carl Junction High School band on their outstanding performances on Saturday, October 7, at the Parkview-Valhalla Marching Festival. The band earned 5th place in Class D in the preliminary competition. Drum Majors Addison Carroll, Austin McAlister, and Thatcher Girouard were awarded outstanding Drum Majors in Class D. This qualified the band for open class finals competition, where the band scored two points higher than prelims and finished 5th place out of 23 bands for the day. Percussion finished 2nd in finals, just one point behind the top section! Guard also finished 4th overall!

Please congratulate these hard-working students!!

#TheCJWay

The CJ Way - In the spring of 2022, a group of CJHS seniors was charged with the task of communicating what it means to be a Bulldog. After surveying staff, students, and community members, these are the words describing what makes Carl Junction Schools a very special place to go to school, work, volunteer, cheer on our teams, and support our students.

Stevenson & Rhodes to lead Primary 2-3 Building

The Carl Junction School District is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Jake Stevenson as the new Principal and Mr. Austin Rhodes as the Assistant Principal for the Primary 2-3 Building.

Noted for his leadership skills, Mr. Stevenson was appointed as Interim Principal of the Primary 2-3 earlier this month. Subsequently, he was formally named Principal by the Board of Education on Monday evening.

“The 2-3 students and teachers are tremendous and have been extremely welcoming during this transition,” said Stevenson. “I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with these individuals long-term! I look forward to supporting the teachers here in the 2-3 building, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for us. Being a principal is a vital role for a building; as I proceed, I will do my best to be the best version of myself to help our building succeed. It is an honor to be thought of for this position and certainly not something that will be taken lightly.”

Joining Mr. Stevenson is Mr. Austin Rhodes, who steps into the role of Assistant Principal. His connection to the district spans eighteen years, having completed his student teaching in Carl Junction in the Spring of 2005, teaching and coaching at Carl Junction Junior High, and teaching physical education in the Primary 2-3 Building.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Stevenson and Mr. Rhodes into their new roles. Their combined experience, dedication, and leadership will continue the vision and excellence of Carl Junction Schools. We have every confidence in their ability to lead our Primary 2-3 Building students and staff," stated Dr. Phillip Cook, Superintendent of the Carl Junction Schools.
