Shanteka Glover
Class of 2009
Shanteka Glover graduated from South Carolina State University in Spring 2009 with a bachelor's degree in computer science, magna cum laude.
Glover recently was selected as a U.S. Women in Nuclear Member Spotlight. This national recognition highlights U. S. Women in Nuclear members making strides in their career, community, and contributions to the nuclear industry.
She was featured in an article on The WINning Edge and on YouTube.
Glover also completed an MBA with a concentration in project management, at Strayer University in 2012 and a master's degree in information systems management from Strayer in 2020

Dr. Carmilla Young Casteal
Class of 2004
Affectionately known as "Dr. Cassie," Dr. Carmilla Young Casteal is a 22-year veteran health and physical education teacher. She was honored in 2020 as the South Carolina Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
She teaches at Longleaf Middle School in Richland District Two in Columbia, South Carolina. Her roles at Longleaf Middle include assistant athletic director, wellness coordinator, mentor, evaluator, grant writer, and educational advocate.
Dr. Cassie earned a doctorate in education curriculum & teaching from Northcentral University, an Education Specialist in educational leadership school systems, superintendency, and leadership from Webster University, a Master of Education Degree in elementary education from South Carolina State University, and bachelor’s degree in physical education from Claflin University.
As a community activist, Dr. Cassie and her daughters serve less fortunate individuals with her non-project organization Project Faith in Action (FIA). She is also a Board member of Girls on the Run Columbia, which supports the health and wellness of students while focusing on female empowerment.
Additionally, Dr. Cassie is the coordinator for the Project UNIFY (Special Olympics) student organization to promote social inclusion through youth activation and inclusive sports. This program brings together youth with and without disabilities to create an inclusive environment for everyone to be accepted.
Dr. Cassie is the proud mother of three beautiful daughters, Zharia, Zhaire, and Zhanaya Casteal, and a "fur son" Dallas. She is also an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Dr. Cassie enjoys shopping, traveling, writing, reading, exercising, cooking, performing community service projects, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys football team when she is not teaching.

SC State alumna Tracy Wright is CEO of Wright Consultants LLC, a creative marketing firm. Wright is a skilled marketing professional with over 20 years of experience in branding and marketing. Prior to launching her own company in 2006, Tracy worked in the television broadcasting industry.
She is the event and marketing consultant for the Fritz Pollard Alliance Foundation.
The Fritz Pollard Alliance in partnership with the Kwamie Lassiter Foundation and Wright Consultant LLC hosted the inaugural Charity Celebrity Super Bowling Tournament and Fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 11, during Super Bowl LVI Week in Phoenix, Arizona.

Celebrity sports guests included 2022 SC State graduate Decobie Durant, a defensive back for the NFL's Los Angeles Rams. and Edwin Jackson of Major League Baseball.
“It was really exciting to be a part of the Super Bowl festivities. I was also excited to have support from fellow bulldogs, who showed up at my event and lent their support," Wright said.
The Kwamie Lassiter Foundation is committed to providing opportunities that promote comprehensive awareness of Sickle Cell Anemia Disease while also continuing to target the way children are motivated to inspire leadership in education.
Wright was also involved with the Fritz Pollard Alliance Foundation's 17th Annual Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. Salute to Excellence Awards on Feb. 10 in Los Angeles to recognize the achievements and long-standing commitment of individuals and organizations dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Michael R. Johnson

Tracy Harmon
Class of 1992
SC State grads Michael R. Johnson and Tracy Harmon were speakers for Omega Psi Phi State of Georgia Fatherhood and Mentoring's Fathers and Youth Symposium on "The Importance of Education" on Feb. 23.
Johnson is director of student support for the Columbia County School District. He is a native of Augusta, Georgia, and received his undergraduate degree in business administration from SC State. In addition, he has a master’s degree in education and a specialist’s degree in educational administration and supervision.
Harmon is a graduate of South Carolina State University and holds a Master of Education with a concentration in special education from Grand Canyon University.
She has held several positions for 22 years at all levels from college/adult education to elementary school. She was awarded Omega Psi Phi - Psi Omega Chapter’s Citizen of the Year 2017.

Sa’Rah L. Jones
Class of 1995
Sa’Rah L. Jones is the writer and co-producer of a new TV show called "Act Your Age." It’s an MGM project that will premiere on Bounce TV on March 4.
Also, Jones wrote a movie for Lifetime called "Girl in the Closet." That project premieres March 11.
Jones also is known for "Family Reunion" (2019), "The Neighborhood" (2018) and "Single Black Female" (2022).
Jones earned her degree from SC State in English and broadcasting.

Jerrell Moore
Class of 1997
In celebration of Black History Month, Google hosted a virtual panel discussion on Feb. 16 titled “Leadership Learnings from HBCU Google Changemakers” with three HBCU alumni in leadership positions who shared how their unique undergraduate educations prepared them for their careers at Google.
The panel included Jerrell Moore, a South Carolina State University alumnus. Moore is Google's head of global diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Named one the most influential African Americans in Corporate America, Moore is a certified executive coach specializing in people strategy and inclusion across varied industries. His 20-year career has been dedicated to developing leaders, diversity and inclusion, and culture enhancement.
After graduating from SC State with a bachelor's degree in English in 1997, Moore earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina and a master's degree in human resources from the Darla Moore School of Business.

Will Boyd
Class of 1997
Northeast State Community College, Blountville, Tennessee, is closing out Black History Month with jazz musician Will Boyd on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
A multi-reed instrumentalist, composer and educator, Boyd hails from soul sax tradition of artists Eddie Harris, Hank Crawford, David "Fat Head" Newman, King Curtis and Yusef Lateef. Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, by way of Queens, New York, Boyd’s resume began in his teenage years when he was playing with professional local R&B groups.
He continued to polish his skills at South Carolina State University where he received bachelor’s degree in music business. He also met future wife, Kelle Jolly, a musician and vocalist.
He played on the SC State jazz ensemble that boasted distinguished alumni such as tenor man Houston Person, trombonist Ron Westray (Lincoln Center Alum), and trumpeter Charlton Singleton (Ranky Tanky). He also played in the concert band and the Marching 101. Was inducted into the university’s jazz hall of fame in 1997.
Will moved to Knoxville in early 2000s, and enrolled into the University of TN program where he would receive his Master of Jazz Studies. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina Asheville and Warren Wilson College. He and his wife have played numerous musical festivals in the United States and abroad.

Shirley M. McConico
Class of 1979
SC State joins the family of Shirley M. McConico in mourning her passing on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023. She was born and raised in Clarendon County, South Carolina, and graduated from South Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree.
While in college, Shirley worked at Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as part of a co-op program. After graduation, she took a permanent job at Y-12. She later continued her education at the University of Tennessee where she received a master's degree.
Services were held Monday in Oak Ridge.
