Benefit Reminder: Tap Into Your Consumerism Card Benefits — Health Advocate Solutions

The benefits of the Consumerism Card are available to all regular full- and part-time employees, their spouses and dependents (to age 26). One of the valuable benefits available through the Consumerism Card is Health Advocate Solutions. Healthcare is complicated. A representative from Health Advocate Solutions can help you navigate the confusion and red tape of insurance and healthcare systems in the following ways:

  • Untangle medical bills and insurance claims
  • Negotiate discounts to lower your out-of-pocket medical costs, possibly leading to a reduction in your costs
  • Locate doctors, specialists, hospitals, dentists and pharmacies
  • Coordinate care among multiple providers
  • Assist with eldercare and related healthcare issues
  • Arrange second opinions
  • Transfer medical records
  • Provide information about generic drug options

The first step to using Heath Advocate Solutions is to register your Consumerism Card. Your group and member IDs are available on your Consumerism Card. If you do not have access to your card, request this info from [email protected]. Once registered, the Consumerism Card website will direct you to the toll-free number to call and speak to a health care advocate.

Personal health advocates are typically registered nurses screened to have excellent communication skills and the professional credentials necessary to serve you. They also have access to medical directories and benefits/claims specialists to address specific needs.

You may need to complete a general authorization form for an advocate to:

  • Discuss a claim or appeal with a provider/carrier on your behalf
  • Transfer medical records from one office to another
  • Speak with a provider office on your behalf

Health Advocate is just one of the valuable benefits available through the Consumerism Card. Look for more information about additional Consumerism Card benefits in future Bulldog Weekly editions.

Wellness Center Collecting Pop Tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities

The Wellness Center is collecting pop tabs to support Ronald McDonald House Charities until Sept. 30 at the following locations around campus:

  • Wellness Center (first floor of Campus Center)
  • Academic Success Center (third floor of Academic Building)
  • Student Affairs Office (third floor of Campus Center)
  • Library (Academic Building)

Tabs are packed with a high concentration of pure, recyclable aluminum. Revenue from the recycled tabs provides a home away from home for families whose seriously ill children are undergoing medical treatment in a Metro Detroit hospital.

Tabs can be collected from pop cans, soup cans, canned fruits and veggies, and pet food cans. Be sure to wash the tabs. Between 1,000 and 5,000 tabs make 1 pound of aluminum, which is worth 30 cents to 75 cents per pound.

For more information, email [email protected].
