Welcome to Bullet Points, our news & events email!
2021 Membership Renewals Still Open!
Reminder: SPFGA memberships end at midnight on December 31.

If you haven't renewed by midnight Dec 31, your membership ends, your gate access card deactivates, your liability insurance lapses, and you cease to receive club communications. It's to your advantage to renew prior to Dec 31.

If you wish to change your membership type (e.g. from Regular to Family), please contact memberservices@spfga.ca prior to renewing.

The renewal process through the member portal is very simple and quite slick. The quick steps are:

  • SPFGA.ca
  • Login
  • Memberships
  • Renew

If you want the FULL steps with illustrations, click the Membership Renewal button below. Please note that after Dec 31, this process for renewals will change and will require additional steps to complete.
Office closed Dec 24 to Jan 4
Spreading holiday cheer & going into a new year!

Our offices will be closed for the holidays from December 24 to January 3 inclusive. We will re-open on January 4 at 8:30 am and will return phone messages and emails at that time.

Merry Christmas to you and yours from the SPFGA Board.

The Ketchamoot Creek facility and the ranges remain open as usual through the holidays.
Facility Re-opening Plan Amended
We have reviewed the public health orders announced on December 8 and made some refinements to our Facility Re-opening Plan to accommodate their requirements.

Please ensure you read, know, and follow the details of the plan (click the button below to view them), where we currently remain at Phase 2.

The public health orders officially took effect December 13, and bring about the following changes to the plan:
  • Leagues and events are suspended while the public health orders remain in effect.
  • Only SPFGA members are permitted on the property, no non-member guests permitted while the orders are in effect.
  • Masks are now required anywhere on the property, with the exception of the firing line, when unable to distance 2 m from someone you do not live with.

While our masking requirements represent the absolute minimum required in the public health orders, we request and encourage members to mask as continuously as possible, to also strive to maintain 2m distancing from members you do not live with, and to also regularly sanitize your hands.

We cannot stress strongly enough the need for you to comply with these elements. Solid compliance with the provincial health orders is the primary reason we can remain open. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action at minimum, and could ultimately lead to the need to close the facility again.
More talk about masks
The topics of masks and exemptions have come up. We recognize this is a controversial topic, so let’s talk more about that.

The Board included a number of factors in its consideration of this matter:
  • We have an obligation to ensure the safety of everyone using the facility.
  • We remain very conscious of the social and political scrutiny the firearms community currently receives. We feel it’s important therefore to do everything we can to ensure that we are not the source of an outbreak.
  • The provincial health orders represent a minimum standard, not a maximum. It’s up to the Board to determine what, if any, additional measures are necessary for some of the unique aspects of our operation.
  • The setup of our range sheds makes it challenging to maintain the required 2 m physical distancing, which has been shown to be the best method to prevent transmission of COVID-19. Masks are the secondary measure when distancing isn’t possible.

Two items worthy of note about this:
  • The requirement of masks when 2 m physical distancing is not possible is not something new, this has been the requirement since we re-opened in May. We have simply clarified that this now applies everywhere on the property.
  • We recognize that some members may have medical exemptions to mask use. While we respect that, our obligation is to ensure the safety of everyone using the facility, and we are unable to accept any exemptions. Therefore, anyone that requires a mask exemption is advised that that they will not be able to use the facility until we reach Phase 3 of our re-opening plan and the property has been fully re-opened to normal use.
Intro To Winter Camping Course
Only one spot left!
Imagine moving across a frozen landscape, the air still and crisp, snow crunching underfoot. The sun is setting, unveiling the wonder of the night sky. The smell of a wood stove warms your senses as you reach your home for the night: a beautiful canvas tent, set up and waiting for you like an old friend with the porch light on.

Instructed by Dragan Uzelac, owner of Niko Wilderness Education and SPFGA member, this two day, one night Intro to Winter Camping course will leave you feeling more comfortable and confident in all your winter travels.

Covered topics include:
  • fire lighting
  • knife handling
  • stovemanship
  • axe use and safety
  • saws
  • winter travel
  • clothing
  • animal tracks
  • survival
  • bushcraft skills

All with the comfort of canvas tents, warmed by wood stoves. Full COVID-19 precautions are being taken, including upgrades to the sleeping arrangements.

SPFGA member rate: $350.00 per person

Held on the 700+ acres of our Ketchamoot Creek Facility on February 20 & 21, this members-only turn-key course for up to six participants will provide everything required, including quality high-end camp meals, kitchenware, tents and snowshoes.

Attendees need only provide winter clothing and sleep systems (winter rated sleeping bag and sleeping mats).
AFGA Wildlife Record Books
Looking for a last minute gift idea?

Consider an AFGA Wildlife Records book. This would make a nice present for a friend of family member and goes toward support of our provincial organization.

They are available for $40 from Gaetan Richard at funoutdoors@live.ca.
Facebook Discussion Group
Please come and join our members-only Facebook discussion group, The Ketchamoot Discourse, a place where SPFGA members can talk with each other or the Board.

Head on over and take a look. See you there!
