Interested in being sponsored to attend a conservation camp?
Each summer, the Narrow Lake Conservation Centre hosts the Narrow Lake Youth Camp (NLYC) during the 1st and 3rd weeks of July.

The NLYC offers attendees between 12 and 16 years of age Hunter Education, the Canadian Firearms Safety course and the Boat Safety Course. In addition, campers enjoy activities like canoeing, archery, rifle, pistol, shotgun, and black powder shooting, wilderness overnight camping, outdoor survival skills, swimming, and fishing.

SPFGA has the opportunity to sponsor 2 youth members to attend the NLYC this year.

If you are interested in being sponsored to attend, please email info@spfga.ca before March 31, 2023. In your email, please introduce yourself and tell us why you would like to go to camp.

Members selected for sponsorship will be asked to provide photos and a brief story telling us about their experiences.

Make your voice heard
The so-called “gun lobby” Canada’s anti-firearm advocates like to speak scornfully about is each one of us - individually and collectively. We are ALL Canada’s gun lobby.

We’re fibers of the cloth of Canadian democracy and we raise our voices in a lawful and respectful way to let our elected officials know how we feel, which is literally what lobbying is.

To help you with this, we've built some tools you can use to make your voice heard about Bill C-21.
The components of a letter-writing campaign, we’ve set things up so it’s super-simple and easy to use. You won’t even need envelopes or stamps.

Please, in a spare moment over the next few weeks, take 15 minutes & go on to the 'Other' menu on the website to take a look at this - that’s all it will need.

When you’ve got your letters done, post a picture of the pile of them on The Ketchamoot Discourse Facebook discussion page and inspire others to do the same!
Membership system currently offline
An update on January 6 by our web developer created a number of issues with the membership system, necessitating taking it offline to correct these issues.

While offline, members are unable to process renewals, complete the orientation, or buy guest passes. The remainder of the website is unaffected.

We are hoping to have this resolved prior to the end of this week. An update will be sent out via a Safe and Sound message when the system is back online.
Orientation deadline extended to March 1, 2023
We had previously communicated a deadline of February 15, 2023 for members who renewed prior to January 1. As a result of the delays created by the membership system being offline, we're pushing that deadline back to March 1, 2023.
2023-24 Sportfishing Regulation Engagement
Alberta Environment and Protected Areas is inviting participation in the annual sportfishing regulation engagement to garner feedback on potential regulation changes.

Anyone interested is invited to register below:
These Did You Know? articles were suggested by members as a source of quick reminders, highlight specific rules & briefly explain their reasoning.

Did you know that photographic, video, or sound recordings of you may be taken while on the property or attending events?

Part of this occurs intentionally - we have a security camera system - and part is incidental - club representatives or other members might be making recordings and you could be included in them. This is something you acknowledge understanding of when you accept the Membership Terms and Conditions when renewing each year.

Should you wish not to be included, you simply need to remove yourself from the areas where they occur. Which, given that this includes the security system, means that you pretty much don't enter the property.

We're mentioning this because some members have expressed surprise that they were being recorded. The camera system and regular review of its footage is part of our approach for meeting the safety compliance requirements of the Shooting Clubs and Shooting Ranges Regulations (SOR/98-212) to the Firearms Act, a requirement of maintaining our range certification. We've had a security camera system for more than 15 years.
