No changes needed for our COVID mitigation
Members have asked whether the enhanced public health measures in CMOH Order 38-2020 announced on November 24 require any changes for us. We have reviewed these and are confident that no additional changes are needed.

Please continue to follow the guidance detailed in our Facility Re-opening Plan, where we remain at Phase 2, as we have since June 15.

Additionally, please also refer to the article on page 5 of the Fall 2020 edition of Range of Thoughts for a full discussion of the required COVID-19 mitigation strategies all members must observe when at the Ketchamoot Creek facility.

As always, we thank you for your cooperation in following these measures.
SPFGA Board elections are just ahead!
Please join us on Saturday, December 12 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm for Board elections.

We need you to attend and tell us which candidates you feel are most likely to bring the leadership and continuous improvements you’d like to see. And, hopefully, one of those candidates is you...please consider putting your name forward for one of the positions up for election!

Membership renewals now open!
SPFGA memberships run January 1 to December 31. We want to remind you to please renew your membership for 2021 before midnight on December 31.

For members who do not have a 2021 membership, gate access cards will deactivate on January 1. They can be reactivated, but it requires a call to the office for manual reactivation during weekday business hours after you've processed your renewal. So, to avoid the hassle please ensure you get that renewal in.

Intro To Winter Camping Course
Imagine moving across a frozen landscape, the air still and crisp, snow crunching underfoot. The sun is setting, unveiling the wonder of the night sky. The smell of a wood stove warms your senses as you reach your home for the night: a beautiful canvas tent, set up and waiting for you like an old friend with the porch light on.

Instructed by Dragan Uzelac, owner of Niko Wilderness Education and SPFGA member, this two day, one night Intro to Winter Camping course will leave you feeling more comfortable and confident in all your winter travels.

Covered topics include:
  • fire lighting
  • knife handling
  • stovemanship
  • axe use and safety
  • saws
  • winter travel
  • clothing
  • animal tracks
  • survival
  • bushcraft skills

All with the comfort of canvas tents, warmed by wood stoves. Full COVID-19 precautions are being taken, including upgrades to the sleeping arrangements.

SPFGA member rate: $350.00 per person

Held on the 700+ acres of our Ketchamoot Creek Facility on February 20 & 21, this members-only turn-key course for up to six participants will provide everything required, including quality high-end camp meals, kitchenware, tents and snowshoes.

Attendees need only provide winter clothing and sleep systems (winter rated sleeping bag and sleeping mats).

Did you recently get married and want to move to a Family membership to add your spouse?

Or maybe your youngest child has turned 18 and you'd like to move from a Family to a Regular membership because it's just you using the facility?

Or maybe you've had a Youth membership but you've just turned 18 and need to move to a Regular membership?

If you need to change your membership type when renewing for 2021, please email and we'll help you take care of this.
Lost item - spotting scope cap
A member contacted us recently, inquiring if the cap for his spotting scope might had been turned in. We checked the Lost & Found but alas it was not there.

So, we thought we'd contact you to see if it might have inadvertently been packed up in your range kit. It's a black 80 mm (rear) cap for a Swarovski spotting scope.

If you've seen this little guy, please drop us a email at so we can reconnect him with his owner.
What's Your Thought?
What's Your Thought? is a regularly-running poll where you're able to share your thoughts with us.
This What's Your Thought? polls your interest in our birdhouse kits.

On page 15 of the Fall 2020 edition of Range of Thoughts, sent out on November 8, we featured a piece on the birdhouse update project on the property. We received a fair bit of interest from members inquiring whether the build kits mentioned in the article might be also available for sale to members next year.

We were surprised at how much response this garnered, so we thought we'd take a poll to gauge how interest there might be in this.

Please let us know in this edition's poll if you'd be interested in these kits if they were to be available for sale next year. The price would probably be in the $15-18 range.
Would you purchase a birdhouse build kit if we were to make them available for sale?
Yes, I would probably buy one.
Yes, I would probably buy more than one.
No, this wouldn't interest me.
This Last Thought is the poll results from the October 29 edition of Bullet Points.
The Last Thought
In the What's Your Thought? poll of the October 29 edition of Bullet Points, we asked you what winter activities you'd be interested in with our hiking trails, which total just under 7 km in length and cover an entire quarter-section.

We received 71 responses to this survey. Forty responses were for cross-country skiing, 51 were for snowshoeing, and 18 responses for a variety of 'other' responses.

We would like to thank you for this and will use this feedback to inform our planning for this amenity.
These Did You Know? articles were suggested by you as a source of quick reminders, highlight specific rules & briefly explain their reasoning.

We conducted a review of property usage last year (you can find it in its entirety on page 15 of the Summer 2019 edition of Range of Thoughts) to determine patterns of use.

In brief, the facility really isn't heavily used. The property is at its busiest from May to September. Over the week, Saturday and Sunday tend to be busiest, with the majority of visits falling between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily. Mornings, particularly weekdays, before 11:30 a.m. or in the afternoon or evening after 3:30 p.m.
Whenever you plan to come out though, make sure you've checked the Events Calendar on the website beforehand to make sure that there isn't already a booking or event for the amenity you're planning on using.
Discussion Group
Please come and join our members-only Facebook discussion group, The Ketchamoot Discourse, a place where SPFGA members can talk with each other or the Board.

Head on over and take a look. See you there!
