Welcome to Bullet Points , our news & events email! The name was chosen from your submissions to the 'Help us with names' contest we held last year.

'Bullet points' simultaneously brings to mind an itemized list, essentially what these emails are, as well as giving a nod to hunting and sport shooting.

Intro to Winter Camping
Imagine yourself moving across the frozen landscape, stillness in the air, crunch of snow underfoot. The sun sets, unveiling the beauty and wonder of the night sky. The smell of a wood stove warms your senses upon discovering your home for the night: a beautiful canvas tent, set up and waiting for you like an old friend with the porch light on.
Instructed by Dragan Uzelac of Niko Wilderness Education, this two day, one night Intro to Winter Camping course will leave you feeling more comfortable and confident in all your winter travels.
Covered topics include:
  • fire lighting,
  • knife handling
  • stovemanship
  • axe use and safety
  • saws
  • winter travel
  • clothing
  • animal tracks
  • survival
  • bushcraft skills

All with the comfort of canvas tents, warmed by wood stoves.

SPFGA member rate: $275.00 per person

Held at our Ketchamoot Creek Facility on February 22-23, this members-only turn-key course for up to six participants will provide everything required, including quality high-end camp meals, kitchenware, tents and snowshoes. Attendees need only provide winter clothing and sleep systems (winter rated sleeping bag and sleeping mats).

What's Your Thought?
This Last Thought is the poll results from the previous two editions of Bullet Points .
The Last Thought
In the last two editions of Bullet Points , we asked in the What's Your Thought? polls about your feelings on donations.

In the January 31 edition, we asked whether we should increase our budgeted $5,000 donation to the CCFR. Votes in favour were 213 (69.4%), opposed 94 (30.6%).

In our next poll on February 5 we asked if our budgeted $5,000 Wildlife Trust Fund donation and $6,000 Narrow Lake Conservation Center donations should be increased. There was less participation in this question, with 31 (32.6%) votes in favour and 64 (67.4%) opposed. Of votes in favour, 11 (31.4%) voted for an increase to just the WTF, 8 (22.9%) for an increase to just he NLCC, and 16 (45.7%) for an increase to both.
Impending Whole-Facility Closure
Beaver County has informed us that culverts on Range Road 203 (the road leading into the gate) just south of the property are scheduled for replacement in the near future. When this work occurs, our entire facility will be closed to all traffic for all use. This will probably be for the whole day when it happens, but should only require one day of closure.

Beaver County hasn't supplied a specific date yet, but when they do we will update you by email, social media and the website as usual. Please stay posted.
These Did You Know? articles, suggested by you as a source of quick reminders, highlight specific rules & briefly explaining their reasoning.

Did you know that you and your range guest must operate from a single bench?

The Facility Rules, in the Supervised Guest Facility Rules section, states that as the sponsoring member is directly supervising the guest while they are handling uncased firearms, they will operate from a single bench .

The idea here is that as only one of you is shooting at a time, only one bench needs to be used. This ensures there is space for other members as well.
Facebook Discussion Group
Please come and join our Facebook discussion group, The Ketchamoot Discourse , a place where SPFGA members can talk with each other or the Board.

Head on over and take a look. See you there!
