February 20, 2020
Welcome to Bullet Points , our news & events email!
Join Us February 29!
We're changing the format of some of our General meetings this year, focusing on having them be more 'gatherings' than 'meetings'. We'll also be trying different times & locations for them.

Our February meeting will be one of these - held at clubhouse on the property on February 29 at 1:00 p.m., we’ve invited Jeff Bakker of the Alberta Trappers Association (ATA) to give us an interactive & informative talk about Alberta’s furbearers and the conservation cycle.

Jeff will offer us an interesting and different way to think about conservation, using Alberta’s furbearers as a backdrop.

Following this, we'll head out onto the beaver pond behind the clubhouse and learn about the important place beavers hold in the environment and have a chance to see & feel firsthand how beavers organize their homes and yards.

This will be interesting for the whole family, including young kids. So please mark this fun and informative day on your calendar.

We’ll be outside for some of this, so please dress for the conditions. Also, please note that the outhouses will be our bathroom facilities.

There will be a very brief discussion about an update to the club’s Mission Statement just before Jeff begins, but we promise to keep this short as we want the focus to be this excellent presentation.
Two Tidbits About Membership Cards
Tidbit #1: If you purchased a family membership but only received your membership card and none for your other family members, you simply need to log into your account and add your spouse and kids in. To do this, log into your member account on the website & click 'My Account' to take you to the Member Portal. The 'Add Dependents' link is in the menu on the left.

Once you’ve done that, please let us know at memberservices@spfga.ca or call the office at 780-467-0085 so we can print your cards and send them to you.

Tidbit #2: If you were a member in the past and are just rejoining us this year after an absence, you may not have received a new gate access card along with your 2020 membership cards. If you did not, this is because we had the record of your old gate access card on file and simply reactivated it.

If you no longer have that gate access card though, or are unable to find it, please let us know at memberservices@spfga.ca or call the office at 780-467-0085 so we can send you a replacement.
Automatic Gate Ready To Roll!
Gate's in & pedestal-mounted card readers are ready to go - time to make the switch!

On Saturday, February 29 we'll be switching over to our new automatic gate. We'll be decommissioning the sign-in logbook kiosk at this time too, as the new electronic access system will track of all of this for us.

There are a few points to keep in mind:

  1. You'll continue to use your existing access card.
  2. Scanning is on the driver’s side of the vehicle, which means that you'll be driving through on the opposite side. Please be careful with other traffic in the gate area.
  3. Every member in the vehicle with a gate access card must scan their card on entry (scanning one right after the other works fine).
  4. Please ensure that the gate is closing behind you before proceeding.
  5. We are all responsible for the security of the property - please do not allow tailgating.

We hope you enjoy this new upgrade! Please contact us with questions or concerns at memberservices@spfga.ca .

What's Your Thought?
What's Your Thought? is a regularly-running poll where you're able to share your thoughts
The Last Thought
This Last Thought is the poll results from the previous edition of Bullet Points .
We asked in the February 11 edition of Bullet Points , if a 'For Ladies' PAL course would be of interest to you or your spouse/partner?

Most members expressed positive interest in courses like this, with 83 (72.8%) saying yes they would be interested and 31 (27.2%) saying no they would not.
Impending Whole-Facility Closure
Beaver County has informed us that culverts on Range Road 203 (the road leading into the gate) just south of the property are scheduled for replacement in the near future. When this work occurs, our entire facility will be closed to all traffic for all use. This will probably be for the whole day when it happens, but should only require one day of closure.
Beaver County hasn't supplied a specific date yet, but when they do we will update you by email, social media and the website as usual. Please stay posted.
These Did You Know? articles, suggested by you as a source of quick reminders, highlight specific rules & briefly explaining their reasoning.

This Did You Know? is a little different - rather than letting you know about a rule, we'd like to let you know about the archive.

Starting from a suggestion put forward by Ian Soles, a fellow member, t hese Bullet Points , like our quarterly newsletters, are archived on the website here .

This way, if you ever want to look again at something you'd seen mentioned here, you can simply go to the archive and find it.
Facebook Discussion Group
Please come and join our Facebook discussion group, The Ketchamoot Discourse , a place where SPFGA members can talk with each other or the Board.
