Eruv Tavshilin

Please remember to make an Eruv Tavshilin on Thursday before chag starts. Eruv Tavshilin is the ritual we do whenever Shabbat immediately follows Yom Tov. It is a ritual through which - before Yom Tov begins - we set aside a cooked food (hard boiled egg) and a baked food (matza) that are designated to be eaten on Shabbat, and explicitly designate them as such. (See the bracha and the formula in the Artscroll Siddur, p.654 ) This ritual permits us to cook and bake our Shabbat food on Yom Tov.

Mazal Tov:

to joyous grandparents Amy and Jeff Rabin and to parents Yael and Rafi on the birth of twin baby boys!

to Nikki Sieger & Andres Terech on the bat mitzvah of their daughter Aliza on Monday! Mazal Tov as well to Aliza's brothers, Gabriel and Yonah.

BDJ Office

The BDJ Office will be closed this Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day.

The Doctor Will Not See You Now: The Misdiagnosis of Women

It is a documented reality that women are misdiagnosed more frequently than men, due to cultural norms, lack of research, and implicit bias. Some women spend years shuttling between doctors searching for answers only to find that the disorders other doctors missed or misdiagnosed were potentially life threatening. Why are women so much more vulnerable to misdiagnosis? How can we take control of our healthcare and ensure that our medical needs are being met, especially as we age and our hormones change? How can we ask the right questions, demand thorough responses, and be our own best advocates? Let us share our collective wisdom and insight in offering one another advice and support.

Seder Nashim is BDJ’s women-only discussion series.
