Janvier 2016

The Galette des Rois is a way for French people to celebrate the Epiphany, the arrival of the Three Wise men (Magi). Every year, on January 6th, people gather pour tirer les rois, to find the kings. The traditional galette is cut in a very specific number of slices: one slice for each person sitting at the table plus one. The extra slice is symbolic for the first poor person passing by.

Support the Alliance Francaise and enjoy a delicious French tradition! The galettes des rois are available at La Boulangerie (Fig Garden Village, Palm & Shaw) throughout the month of January. The galettes celebrate the Epiphany (the arrival of the Three Kings), and are sold everywhere in France in January.

An unlikely friendship develops between a wealthy quadriplegic (François Cluzet) and his caretaker (Omar Sy), just released from prison. This very highly-regarded Cesar award winning film from 2011 has been called the French "Driving Miss Daisy." Another reviewer called it "One of the most unique, beautiful and honest friendships ever committed to film. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry... a delightful celebration of everything in life that makes it worthwhile." Come experience this film at 4:00 on January 17th. Although there is no cost to attend, donations are highly appreciated.
