French Exhibit - Le Roi Soleil From grand royal portraits to satiric views of everyday life, and from small-scale fashion prints decorated with actual fabrics to monumental panoramas of Versailles and the Louvre, this exhibition explores the rich variety of prints that came to define French power and prestige in the era of Louis XIV (1638-1715). During the Sun King's long reign, printmakers and publishers effectively deployed prints to promote French culture, art, and style. Commemorating the 300th anniversary of Louis XIV's death, A Kingdom of Images: French Prints in the Age of Louis XIV, 1660-1715 features nearly 100 works from the Getty Research Institute and the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

Volunteer at the Alliance Francaise

The Alliance Francaise is calling for volunteers to help with basic tasks at our various functions throughout the year: tasks such as checking and selling tickets, setting up tables, decorating the hall, serving food and beverages, cleaning up, distributing programs, setting up audio-visual equipment. These functions occur 3 or 4 times a year and last for 2 or 3 hours. If you would like to join our Alliance team in any of these tasks, please contact Norman Stokle at:

[email protected] or call 559-430-6773

Your help will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

The search is over!

Our new home: 4747 North First Street, Suite 103

Watch for our announcement in the next few weeks as we prepare our new home. We are finally going to have a library where our 400+ books and other French publications will be available to our members, not to mention our growing digital library of movies, TV5 Monde, and, of course, our classes, all available now in one place. We are accepting donations to help with furniture (tables, chairs, shelving, desks, etc.) office and cleaning supplies, and any other useful items you may wish to donate. Please contact us at [email protected] to let us know how you can help, including volunteering!

Georges Feydeau's  "A Flea in Her Ear"

Good Company Players' Second Space Theatre will be performing Georges Feydeau's farce, A Flea in Her Ear from June 18th through August 16th Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the Tower District. This play, one of over 60 that Feydeau wrote was one of the most often performed during the Belle Epoque era in France. It features Carly and Kelsey Oliver, (two former Alliance scholarship recipients), and many other talented performers. The

play is well-staged and very funny. You can purchase tickets at the GCP box office by calling 266-9494 or at www.gcplayers.com.

A letter to the AFF from World Exchange

Our names are Ben and Carolynn Flores.   We have worked with Alliance Française de Fresno in the past.  We are the State Program Directors for a non-profit organization called World Exchange and we need your help.  Could you please share this with your club members, friends, family and co-workers?

We have the responsibility to place a group of students from France in the Fresno County area homes from  July 11 - 30, 2015. We are looking for families loving enough to open their home and let a French high school student into their lives for these 3 weeks. Below there is a little profile of the last students who are anxiously waiting for a home. If we don't find them a home by June 25th they will not be able to travel with the rest of their group.   As parents, we would hate to tell our child they couldn't go because they didn't find a host family to take them in.

Homes are needed for these 15 - 17 year olds who will be visiting our area to experience American family life, eating hot dogs, pepperoni pizza, shopping at the mall, watching American TV, shooting hoops and making new friends and practicing their English.

It's an intercultural exchange, not a vacation. The real purpose for the student is to experience life in the U.S. as it is on a daily basis.

The visit will be fun for all, with:

*Planned activities, outings and parties for families and students.

It is really not necessary to have teenagers or a spare bedroom to be a host family. Children of all ages love the experience and learn so much from it. Single parents with children are also welcome to host a student. If your family has the warmth, curiosity and enthusiasm and a big heart to share with a student, we'll provide the guidance you need.

The students come with their own spending money and health insurance and they have had 4 - 6 years of English in school. They all have been schooled in a third language - Spanish, German. We only ask that you provide room and board (3 meals a day) for the 3 weeks that they are here.

We have been in the Fresno County area for 30 years.  We have been written up in the Fresno Bee and the Clovis Unified Today.

If you or any of your friends, family or co-workers might be interested in helping to save the day, please call me, Ben Flores at (559) 298-2901 or (559) 930- 3609.

Thank you.
