ANNUAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION!

The Nominating Committee has settled on a slate of nominees for the 2014-15 fiscal year (starting October 1) as provided for in the Bylaws.  Due to an array of professional, volunteer and personal reasons 2013-2014 Directors Celeste DeMonte, Chantal Sagouspe and John Hord have decided not to continue on The Board.  We thank them for their years of good work on behalf of L'Alliance Francaise and wish them all the best in their next endeavors.

The nominees for the new Board (in alphabetical order) are: Richard Crossman, Jennifer Dupras, Frederic Martin, Colleen Mitchell, Linda Motschiedler, Larry Roselle, Cherylyn Smith, Ellie Stokle, Norman Stokle, Denise Ulrich and Anne Ybarra.  At the beginning of October currently paid members will be direct-mailed candidate statements and ballots, with a request to return them within 15 days.  The results will be announced at an informal Annual Meeting at the end of the Conversation Cafe at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd at La Boulangerie.  Thank you for your participation in this, and your support of L'Alliance Francaise de Fresno.

Celebrating-- Joie de Vivre! French influenced fashion through the ages Models in full dress with accessories.

Our Fashion Show was a big success! We had a full house at the Severance Building. The audience responded enthusiastically to a well-choreographed display of stunning and edgy fashion, artfully accompanied by tastefully performed and selected music. Thanks to a vibrant committee and production staff, we were able to produce a grand occasion in the cultural life of Fresno. Many delighted attendees asked us to start working on our next iteration of the show; so be on the lookout for announcements in the future. We also want to thank our cosponsors: California Arts Academy, Lilly Dale Murray, KVPR, and La Boulangerie, for their precious and much appreciated support.

La source des femmes
The Women's Spring) - 2011
Discussant: Dr. Rose Marie Kuhn

In a small village somewhere "between North Africa and the Middle East", it has always been a woman's chore to fetch water from the "source", or spring, at the top of the mountain. This arduous task causes several pregnant women to fall and miscarry while hauling their heavy pails of water back to the village. Leila, a young bride, urges the village women to action: no more hugs, love, and sex until the men do their part and bear the painful task of fetching water from the spring back to their village.

This whimsical and, at times, heartbreaking Belgian-Moroccan-French comedy directed by Romanian-born French filmmaker Radu Mihaileanu was selected for screening at the 2011 Festival of Cannes. 124 minutes.

In Arabic with English subtitles. Movie Trailer
