Happy Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day to all of men in our lives who support and encourage us--whether they are fathers, step-fathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, friends, coaches, teachers, coworkers, or neighbors!
Fathers in Our Lives
We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.
Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and
reality teaches us that some fathers excel while
others fail. We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.
This Father's Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and
families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to achieve dreams thought
beyond reach.
So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.
For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of
parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
In Your Holy name, O God, we pray. Amen.
- Rev. Chuck Currie

Would you like to deepen your prayer life? Do you already have a regular prayer practice but would like to pray and reflect on spiritual readings and scripture in a group? A new contemplative prayer group at St. Gertrude has been formed!
Contemplative prayer is silent prayer that opens up us up to awareness of God’s presence by stilling our bodies and our minds. If you haven’t prayed contemplatively before (Centering Prayer, Christian meditation, etc.), we will offer guidance.
We’ll meet weekly each Wednesday at 9:00 am in the chapel of the Ministry Center. Come as you are and as you are able.

Care for Real Collection is Next Weekend
St. Gertrude will hold a collection for Care for Real on June 27-28. As a reminder, donations for Care for Real are collected on the first and fourth weekends of each month.
As changes to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) eligibility requirements take effect, many individuals and families may face new challenges accessing food assistance. Seniors and others who do not qualify for exemptions could be especially affected. Requirements to work or volunteer 80 hours per month and regularly report those hours may create additional barriers, increasing the risk of food insecurity for some of our neighbors.
In response, Care for Real expects demand for its services to grow in the coming months. Donations of food, household essentials, and personal care items will help ensure that neighbors in need continue to receive support.
To learn more about Care for Real's current needs and ways to contribute, please visit https://linktr.ee/cfrchicago or follow Care for Real on Facebook and Instagram.
Thank you for your continued generosity and compassion. Your support helps Care for Real provide food and essential supplies to individuals and families throughout our community.

Growing in Faith
“So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
As a parent, fear feels like a constant companion. The longest night of my life was the night we brought our first-born home from the hospital. Here was a tiny, fragile baby, completely dependent on the support of two brand new parents. No nurses. No doctors. Just two parents alone, at home, a tiny human being under our care.
As he’s grown and we’ve added more siblings, we’re never at a loss for new things to fear. When did they take their first steps? When did they first start reading? Are they spending too much time on screens? When should they be allowed to use social media? How are their grades? What High School did they get into? What college are they attending?
However, as we’ve faced each new fear, we were never alone. And we need not be afraid. In those first months as parents, friends brought food, held the baby, and shared their parenting stories and their wisdom. As our kids have grown, the community of St. Gertrude’s and NCA, have loved and supported them, reminding them of their worth.
That little baby heads to college this fall, along with so many of his friends and classmates from this community. And these kids will do amazing things, because they are not afraid to reach for their dreams. For they have a family and community that remind them that, no matter what, they are worthy.

How to Read the Hymn Board
The hymn board, located on the right side of the sanctuary, helps worshippers follow the music and readings used during Mass. The first number indicates the section for the readings of the day. The numbers that follow correspond to the hymns that will be sung throughout the Mass. Simply find the matching numbers in your hymnal to follow along.
Before Mass begins, take a moment to note the numbers on the hymn board and mark the pages in your hymnal. This simple practice can help you participate more fully in the prayers, readings, and music of the celebration.

Last Weekend’s Second Collection for Priests’ Health and Retirement: Thank You for Your Generosity
Thank you to all who generously supported last weekend’s Priests’ Health and Retirement Collection. Your gift is a meaningful expression of gratitude for the priests who have accompanied us through so many important moments of our lives—celebrating the sacraments, caring for the sick, comforting the grieving, and sharing in our joys and challenges. Your generosity helps provide health care, nursing care, and retirement support for the active and retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Thank you for remembering our priests with your prayers and financial support.

The Edgewater Community Religious Association (ECRA) invites you to a powerful interfaith Juneteenth service, “Recognize the Past, Name the Present.”
Join us for an evening of reflection, remembrance, and celebration at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 19, at the Sacred Heart Schools Chapel, 6250 N. Sheridan Road. The one-hour service will be followed by a celebratory reception.
State Senator Mike Simmons will deliver the keynote address, and Circles & Ciphers will perform.
This is more than a service—it is a call to community and a celebration of resilience.
Transportation
CTA buses 151 and 147 stop directly in front of the Sacred Heart Schools campus at 6250 N. Sheridan Road. The chapel is also located just three blocks east of the CTA Granville Red Line station.
Parking
Two free parking lots will be available for this event. The larger lot is located at the southeast corner of Granville and Kenmore; please enter through the alley. The second lot, located just north of the apartment building at 6211 N. Kenmore, can be accessed from either Kenmore Avenue or the alley.
ECRA is an interfaith organization made up of Christian, Muslim, and Jewish congregations, primarily in the Edgewater neighborhood. In the 1970s, leaders from ECRA congregations, including St. Gertrude parish, helped establish Care for Real, Edgewater’s community food pantry.
