Scripture Talk – Tuesdays @ 6pm (via Zoom)

Scripture Talk is a virtual Bible study ministry offered by the Orthodox Christian Network (OCN) that meets every Tuesday, 6pm to 7pm CST.

Each week, a different Orthodox priest from around the country is invited to help guide the discussion. The Zoom link can be found on the parish calendar.

Orthodox Catechism – Thursdays @ 8pm (via Zoom)

Orthodox Catechism is a class for those seeking to enter the Orthodox Church and for those who are Orthodox looking to learn more about their Faith. Our class meets weekly on Thursdays at 8pm. The Zoom link is on the parish calendar, or contact Fr. Theofanis to learn more.

Film and Discussion on the Immigrant Journey – Tues. Nov. 11th 6-7:30pm in the Parish Hall

Please join us in the parish hall on Tuesday, November 11, for an evening of reflection on the immigrant journey. We will show the award-winning documentary “George” about our parishioner George Manias. After surviving the Nazi occupation of Crete, George and his family moved to Peoria, Illinois. Over the years, he has become a local icon and has received a number of civic and church honors, including the highest honor of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, the Medal of St. Paul. Professor Tavi Gabor will offer a reflection drawn from his new book “Immigrant on Earth.” Matt Richmond, who directed and produced “George,” will join us for questions and answers. The event will take place from 6:00-7:30pm. It will also be available on Zoom. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Youth Catechism & Tea & Cocoa Night - Fri. Nov. 14th @ 6pm

On Fri. Nov. 14th, beginning at 6pm, Elias Anderson will lead a youth catechism on the Creed, followed by a Q&A with him & Fr. Theofanis. The youth catechism is open to all middle school and high school students. During this time, and after, there will be a tea & cocoa night in the parish hall for the younger children, their parents, and all parishioners who would like to join. Board games, treats, and hot cocoa will be available for all. We hope you will join us!

Parish Council Nominations Open – Oct. 26^th through Nov. 16^th

With Parish Council elections this December, open nominations for the Parish Council will take place from today, Oct. 26^th, through Sunday, Nov. 16^th. There will be 4 spots open for the Parish Council. Candidates interested in running for the Parish Council must be stewards in good standing for at least 1 year, attend an interview with Fr. Theofanis prior to the election, complete the Archdiocese Youth Safety Training, and submit a bio of 250 words or less. If you are interested in running for the Parish Council, please reach out to Fr. Theofanis.

Fall General Assembly – Sun. Nov. 23^rd following the Divine Liturgy

Remember that to attend and vote in the Fall General Assembly, you must be a steward in good standing. This means you are an Orthodox Christian participating in the sacramental life of the Church, and you are actively making a stewardship contribution for 2025.

Vigil for St. John Chrysostom – Wed. Nov. 12^th @ 7pm

The vigil will be about 3 hours and consist of Vespers, Orthros, and Divine Liturgy followed by fellowship in the parish hall.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes for the 2025 – 2026 are underway! We have three classes which will welcome students from Preschool through Highschool. Sunday School students and teachers will approach to receive Holy Communion first, and then go downstairs for class. Please register your children for Sunday School at the link below.

Wisdom of the Fathers

Jesus kept quiet about the rich man’s name and mentioned the name of the poor man. The rich man’s name was thrown around, but God kept quiet about it. The other’s name was lost in silence, and God spoke it. Please do not be surprised. God just read out what was written in his book…. You see, God who lives in heaven kept quiet about the rich man’s name, because he did not find it written in heaven. He spoke the poor man’s name, because he found it written there, indeed he gave instructions for it to be written there.

As the most excellent of mirrors represents an image of the face, just such as the face itself which is opposite to it, a joyful image of that which is joyful, a sorrowful of that which is sorrowful; so also is the just judgment of God adapted to our dispositions. Wherefore the rich man because he pitied not the poor as he lay at his gate, when he needs mercy for himself, is not heard.
