Earth Day Celebration at the Park

This weekend will be all about joining together to promote awareness for the health of our environment. Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22.

The community is invited to come out to Hulen Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a family event that will feature activities with the kids and information on conservation and ways to get involved to take care of our planet. A park cleanup will conclude the event for those who are interested.

The event is being hosted in partnership with various City of Cleburne departments, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Johnson County 4-H Program and the Texas Master Naturalist Program. The Cleburne Police Department will be in attendance for National Prescription Drug Take Back, which helps keep expired or unused medications from entering waterways or landfills.

Get Rid of Household Hazardous Waste

Here’s another way you can help protect the planet—properly dispose of your leftover household chemicals. You can do that at the City of Cleburne’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

The event will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cleburne Conference Center. It’s free for all Cleburne residents. To participate, bring your current City of Cleburne utility bill and a photo I.D. showing your Cleburne address. See a list of acceptable items here.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

¡Celebremos! A citywide Cinco de Mayo celebration is coming on Sunday, May 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cleburne Conference Center parking lot.

Get ready for a full day of entertainment, food, a dancing horse show, a car show, a kids zone and more. The celebration is free to the public. Just bring your lawn chairs and coolers. See event details here.

Highlighting an All-Star City Employee

He's been on the job for less than a year, but Austin Nguyen’s willingness to jump in and help others has already left an impact on his team.

That's why the water distribution operator is our latest All-Star Award winner. Learn more about how he's leading the charge to research and plan for new regulations here.

Spreading More Kindness on April 27

A small act of kindness can go a long way. To help spread the love in our community, the Cleburne Public Library hosts its Kindness Club on the last Thursday of the month.

The next gathering will be on Thursday, April 27. You can come and go from 4 to 6 p.m. The project of the month is a book drive, so attendees are encouraged to bring new or gently used children and young adult books, which will later be given to local charities.

Bob Force Day in Cleburne

Did you know April 17, 2023 was Bob Force Day in Cleburne? The former city councilman celebrated his 90th birthday on that day; and Mayor Scott Cain—along with Mayor Pro Tem Mike Mann—were there with him to proclaim it to be Robert T. “Bob” Force Day in the city.

Mr. Force has spent decades of his life serving the community and its citizens. We’re wishing him many more healthy and happy years to come.

A Time for Caregivers to De-stress

The Cleburne Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up to start another six-week cooking series called "Around the Table." The series will focus on caregivers and parents and explore realistic ways to care for yourself and your family by nourishing the mind, body and spirit.

Classes will be held on Wednesdays from May 3 through June 7 at the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The program is free. To sign up, call 817-556-8858.
