Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month

apahm-logo.png

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM). During May, we are encouraged to celebrate the many contributions Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders have made to our culture.

Whether speaking to first, second, third, or fourth-generation individuals, their story is powerful and inspiring. From migrant laborers to inventive trailblazers, the month is a time to acknowledge their hardships, culture, achievements, and beliefs.

  • In 1978, a joint resolution was passed authorizing the president to proclaim a week-long celebration of Asian and Pacific American heritage.
  • In 1992, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month was designated by President Bush. (ED.gov)

Visit the APAHM website to learn more and to attend APAHM online events.

Google Workspace Update: Create A Booking Page

xl-2020-google-workspace-1.jpg

You can now create a booking page in Google Calendar that you can share with your colleagues and customers, including those without a Google account, to help them schedule time with you.

This new feature also includes automatic appointment conflict detection and it allows you to customize your appointment availability, including:

  • Limit early or last-minute booking
  • Limit the max number of appointments per day
  • Automatically add custom buffer time in between appointments

Appointment scheduling will eventually replace the existing appointment slot feature in Google Calendar. Visit the Google Calendar Help page to learn how to set up an appointment schedule.

If your computer needs to be updated, contact your department’s IT liaison or the UNLV IT Help Desk.

Business Affairs Celebrates Take Your Child to Work Day

On April 28, UNLV celebrated Take Your Child to Work Day by hosting a variety of events throughout campus including lunch in the Student Union Amphitheater. Business Affairs teams participated in a number of ways.

Risk Management & Safety, Rebel Recycling, and the Community Garden hosted events, the senior vice president’s office sponsored cookies during lunch, and a number of employees brought their children to campus to participate in the festivities. It was a great day and for some children, their first introduction to a college campus. Here are some highlights from the day.
