National Wellness Month with Sonja Rogers

Dear Business Affairs Colleagues,

For many in Business Affairs, August is a busy time. We're about to go into a new academic year, and your work affects every part of campus.

When the pace increases, it’s easy to focus on what needs to be done and put our own needs at the bottom of the list. We tell ourselves that we’ll take better care of ourselves after the semester begins, after the next deadline, or after things settle down. The problem is that another responsibility is usually waiting right behind the one we just completed.

August is National Wellness Month. This year, let it be a reminder that you don’t have to wait for a quieter season to make your well-being a priority. You can begin where you are, with the time and energy you have available right now. To do this, I encourage you to take a couple moments to notice what helps you feel restored, and choose one realistic action that you can return to consistently.

In Business Affairs, the work you do matters, and so do you. As we prepare to begin another academic year, I hope you give your own well-being the same focus and energy you bring to your work.

Don’t just be well. Be RebelWELL.

Employee Appreciation Recipients

Chelsea Meggerson

Chelsea Meggerson, Purchasing and Contracts

Chelsea was nominated for her proactive leadership and the positive culture she has built within Purchasing and Contracts. She consistently responds to requests within 24 hours, meets deadlines, and communicates issues early.

In 2025, she leveraged purchasing consortiums, mentored employees, and encouraged team members to negotiate directly with suppliers, leading to an incredible $1,730,136.13 in departmental cost savings. She also led the implementation of a new contract management system. This has made it easier for the team to plan its workload and address contracts ahead of deadlines.

As a CARE ambassador, Chelsea models the standards she encourages others to follow. She shares information across teams, communicates openly, recognizes employees for their work, and treats her colleagues’ time and responsibilities with respect. She has created an environment where employees understand the reasoning behind decisions. They feel comfortable contributing ideas and working together to find practical solutions.

Thank you, Chelsea, for your leadership and commitment. Your work has a measurable impact on our community.

Justin Sechrest

Justin Sechrest, Facilities Management

Justin was nominated for his leadership and initiative in the Electrical Shop.

He has taken ownership of major projects, including the University Hall remodel and the Ham Fine Arts restroom refresh. When the shop supervisor was out for several months, he stepped up to make sure daily operations kept running smoothly and important work continued without interruption. During a difficult point in the fiscal year, he also coordinated material orders and helped implement the new campus lighting standards.

Throughout this work, he has remained dependable, positive, and willing to take on anything that was needed to get the job done right. His efforts have supported your coworkers, kept projects moving, and helped maintain a safe and functional campus.

Thank you, Justin, for your initiative and commitment. Your work has makes a meaningful difference to UNLV.
