| | New Year Wellness and Resolutions | | |
The start of a new year is a moment we all share, even though our work and roles vary across departments. It’s a chance to check in with ourselves, set realistic goals, and focus on well-being in ways that fit our individual routines. Small changes, made with intention, can add up over time. Supporting one another and recognizing everyday efforts helps build connections across teams. As the year begins, we move forward together with care, flexibility, and a shared sense of purpose.
Check out the RebelWELL calendar to explore this month’s activities designed to promote well-being and empower employees.
| | January 2026 Rebel Accessibility Hero | |
The offices of educational compliance and accessibility resources have named Chantel McDonald, director of strategic projects and training development in Business Affairs, as the January 2026 Rebel Accessibility Hero.
Since joining UNLV in 2021, McDonald has demonstrated a strong commitment to making accessibility part of everyday practice. Her background includes work with the Nevada Assistive Technology Resource Center at UNR and completion of UNLV’s Foundations of Accessibility training after joining Business Affairs in 2022. As a mentor for Business Affairs’ Accessibility Ambassador Academy, she supports colleagues by sharing her knowledge, answering questions, and connecting teams with resources. Read more about her impact on the UNLV News Center.
Congratulations, Chantel!
| | Martin Luther King Jr. Day | | |
Each January, Martin Luther King Jr. Day honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose leadership and advocacy helped advance civil rights and social justice in the United States. This day also serves as a time to reflect on Dr. King’s commitment to equality, nonviolence, and service, as well as the lasting impact of the Civil Rights Movement.
Additionally, MLK Day is recognized as a National Day of Service. Individuals and communities are encouraged to engage in acts that strengthen understanding, equity, and civic responsibility across lines of difference. Observing this day offers an opportunity to reflect on shared values and consider how those principles can shape and better our communities.
Las Vegas celebrates King Week with events beginning Thursday, Jan. 15 through Saturday, Jan. 24. The 44th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade will occur on Monday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. in Downtown Las Vegas. For more information about all the events happening during King Week, visit King Week Las Vegas.
UNLV observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a campus-wide recess, meaning classes are canceled and offices are closed on Jan. 19. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
| | Fast and Free Head Shots at Lied Library | | |
As the new year gets underway, it is a great time to update your professional headshot. UNLV Career Services and Workforce Development, in partnership with University Libraries, offers fast and free headshots through the Iris Photo Booth on the second floor of Lied Library near the Career Collection.
The booth makes it easy to take a polished photo for presentations, conferences, and other professional purposes, such as Workday profiles. Your final image will be emailed to you after you make your selections.
| | Join the UNLV Community on the O-Marché App | | |
As you refresh your spaces and discard unwanted items in the new year, consider donating them instead of sending them to the landfill. UNLV students, faculty, and staff have free access to O-Marché, a secondhand exchange app that makes giving and receiving items simple and sustainable. The platform helps reduce campus waste while supporting UNLV’s Rebel Climate Action Plan (CAP).

Holiday Decor Wins
As part of Business Affairs’ second annual holiday decorating contest, nine participants decked their workspace walls with creatively themed decor. -
Second Place: Hector Mariche's World of Santa

Parking and Transportation Services once again proved that great design — and Rebel spirit — comes in all forms, including graham crackers and frosting. The team earned first place for “Most Realistic” in the Southwest Parking & Transportation Association’s (SWPTA) Gingerbread Parking Garage Contest, thanks to a meticulously crafted gingerbread parking garage and village, inspired by UNLV’s campus and the upcoming Transit Center Garage.
