In October 2025, we distributed our annual Business Affairs customer service survey. Many of our campus colleagues replied to the survey with notes of praise for our hard-working teams. See below for some highlights for HVAC.

The United States of America Turns 250

On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

America250 is the national, nonpartisan initiative established by Congress to coordinate the commemoration. Events and programs taking place throughout the year invite people to learn more about the country’s history, recognize the many communities that have shaped it, and consider what the nation’s next chapter might look like.

Here in Nevada, America250 activities have included educational programs, volunteer projects, and opportunities for residents to share the people, places, and stories that have shaped the state. These efforts recognize that the country’s history includes local histories—and that Nevada’s communities have their own experiences and contributions to add to the national story.

UNLV Libraries Special Collections & Archives have also contributed to the commemoration. A photograph from the Robert Woodruff Photograph Collection was selected to represent UNLV in the Society of American Archivists’ “250 for the 250th” initiative, a national digital repository featuring archival materials from across the country.

This 1934 photograph shows a massive pipe and—barely visible—a worker kneeling inside as it moves across Black Canyon and the Boulder Dam (now known as Hoover Dam) rises below. The image captures the scale of one of the 20th century’s most ambitious engineering projects and its lasting impact on Southern Nevada.

Hey, Rebecca! What makes Ramen Aku special?

The ramen is tasty, and the location is really close to campus. The food is also spicy—so be aware of your tolerance—but it also has great flavor.

What's the #1 menu item that we HAVE to try?

Any of the ramen, or the gyoza dumplings.

Is there anything else we should know before we go?

The bowls of ramen are large. If you eat on the lighter side, I’d consider them sharable.

Reminder: Complete Administrative Faculty Performance Reviews by Sept. 1

UNLV has transitioned the performance review cycle for administrative faculty employees not housed within an academic area to one that aligns with the university’s fiscal year. This includes administrative faculty employees in Business Affairs. The annual performance review cycle begins on July 1 and evaluations are due by September 1. 

Annual performance evaluations are both a required process and an important tool for providing meaningful feedback on performance and development. To help ensure a timely and effective review cycle, please complete all evaluations by Sept. 1.

Recognize a Colleague for Their Great Work

There's still time to recognize your colleagues for their great work. The deadline for submitting nominations for the June Business Affairs Employee Appreciation Awards has been extended to July 2 at 5 p.m.

Anyone can submit a nomination. The award is $100 for each monthly recipient, and these recipients will be entered into a pool for the $1,000 Employee of the Year award.



To nominate an outstanding colleague, submit a nomination on the Business Affairs Employee Resources webpage.
