Submissions Requested: First-Generation College Graduates and Veterans
In November, we will recognize Business Affairs employees who are first-generation college graduates and / or veterans.
| |
First-Generation College Graduates
UNLV's 2026 First-Generation Celebration Week is in November!
A first-generation college graduate is a graduate whose parents did not complete a four-year college or university degree. Each year, Business Affairs recognizes the division’s first-generation college graduates in the Business Affairs Bulletin and on the Campus Services Building (CSB) lobby screens. We are excited to continue this tradition, and if you were a first-gen student, we'd like to celebrate you.
If you are a first-gen college graduate, and would like to be included, please fill out the First-Generation College Graduate form by Oct. 23.

United States Military Veterans
Veterans Day is November 11. We value the sacrifices our veteran employees have made for our country through their military service. In honor and recognition, Business Affairs will feature and celebrate employees who are veterans in the Business Affairs Bulletin and on the Campus Services Building lobby screens.
If you are a veteran, and would like to be included, please complete the Veterans Qualtrics form by Oct. 23.
If you are both a first-generation college graduate and a veteran, please complete both forms.
For questions, please contact Jessie Devine or Heather Ortiz.
| | Call for Messages of Gratitude | | |
Do you know a co-worker or team that deserves recognition for outstanding work? Or someone who exemplifies the CARE standards?
November is National Gratitude Month and a great time to recognize our fellow Business Affairs team members. Submit notes of gratitude through Rebel Applause by 5 p.m. on Nov. 6 to let your colleagues know how much you appreciate them. All recognitions submitted during this timeframe will be featured in the Nov. 13 edition of the Business Affairs Bulletin and entered into a drawing for a $20 gift card. Five winners will be selected at random.
You can submit as many notes as you’d like. All UNLV employees have a Rebel Applause account and can access the system using their ACE ID.
For questions, please contact Liz Davis or Heather Ortiz.

Brenda Carter, Facilities Management
Brenda was nominated for the exceptional dedication and care she brings to her work as a custodian. Her efforts help keep university facilities clean, orderly, and running smoothly each day.
Brenda’s attention to detail is especially evident in the care she gives to maintaining campus floors. Through thorough cleaning and waxing, she always leaves spaces looking polished. Her strong organizational skills also help keep facilities efficient and welcoming for the employees, students, and visitors who use them.
Additionally, Brenda’s reliability and commitment to high standards make her a valuable member of the team. The pride she takes in her work is evident, and she consistently contributes to an environment that is clean and functional.
Thank you, Brenda, for your dedication and hard work. Your work makes a visible difference across campus and helps create spaces where the UNLV community can do its best work.

Tyler Murray, Risk Management & Safety
Tyler was nominated for the important role he plays in keeping the UNLV community safe. He manages a high volume of ergonomic requests, safety inspections, and incident investigations across campus. He regularly provides same-day responses to urgent issues and quickly delivers evaluations and reports to supervisors so corrective action can begin as soon as possible. He also remains involved until hazards are fully addressed and resolved.
Tyler’s ability to work effectively with employees across the university has made a significant impact. Through active listening, technical expertise, and strong customer service, he helps navigate difficult situations and identify practical solutions that create safer workplaces. His proactive approach to addressing ergonomic risks and physical hazards also helps prevent injuries, reduce workers’ compensation costs, avoid regulatory issues, and limit disruptions caused by workplace incidents.
Through his work, Tyler demonstrates Business Affairs’ CARE standards by treating employees with respect and compassion, taking ownership of campus safety concerns, and consistently providing thorough, evidence-based solutions.
Thank you, Tyler, for your care and commitment. Your work helps protect our employees and contributes to a safer campus for the UNLV community.
| Take Action During Breast Cancer Awareness Month | |
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Early detection is one of the most effective ways to improve breast cancer outcomes, and regular screenings can identify changes before symptoms appear. This month, take the time to review your personal risk factors, learn when you should begin mammograms, and schedule screenings.
Through PEBP, preventive mammograms are covered at 100% when performed in-network and eligibility requirements are met. For the 2026–2027 plan year, PEBP also expanded breast cancer benefits to include additional screening imaging and pathology services, as well as diagnostic breast imaging at 100% coverage. Deductible requirements may apply depending on your plan. Explore the PEBP Plan Year 2027 resources for coverage details.
| This Sustainability Day, Move UNLV Forward | |
Oct. 28 is Sustainability Day, and this year, UNLV has significant achievements to celebrate. The university recently became one of just 14 institutions nationwide to earn the inaugural Carnegie Elective Classification for Sustainability, recognizing its commitment to sustainability through research, education, campus operations, and community partnerships.
You can help build on that progress by taking advantage of UNLV's sustainability programs. Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it at one of more than 100 campus hydration stations, recycle accepted materials in recycling bins on campus, or download the free O-Marché app to exchange secondhand items with fellow Rebels (connect with the UNLV group by using group ID: REBELS and code: 771-637-497).
