Department Highlight: Moving Services

If you need items or equipment picked up, dropped off, or moved around, call UNLV’s Moving Services department—they ensure that all moving needs are met and run smoothly from start to finish.

“The department was revived in 2017 to offset the cost of moving and removing university-owned equipment on and off campus,” says Colin Tewey, director of Delivery Services, the unit that Moving Services is housed under. The Moving Services team includes Andrew Erickson (logistics services manager), Jose Lopez (moving supervisor), Jeffrey Deconinck, and Sam Ealy (movers). 

To contact Moving Services, a department must put in a work request through the Business Affairs Portal and include details about the type and timing of the service. A member of the team will review the request and provide a pre-move inspection, assessment, and price quote prior to the service being started. Once a request is approved, Moving Services tags and marks items, assembles and disassembles workstations and cubicles, and handles office electronics and high-tech machinery with expert care. 

“Depending on the time of year, we receive approximately 80 requests a month,” Colin says. “Our busiest months are typically January, July, and August.” 

One recent project that Moving Services assisted with was delivering and assembling gaming pods donated to the Black Fire Innovation Hub. The donation consisted of 12 large desks with TVs and LED lighting preinstalled and 10 gaming PCs with accompanying monitors and peripherals.“This donation helped furnish the Esports Arena at Black Fire and will be used to enrich and educate UNLV students about esports and gaming,” he says. 

Sometimes Moving Services receives requests to assist with off-campus moves. For instance, moving items from the Maryland campus to Shadow Lane, assembling desks for the Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach (CAEO) at various high schools in Clark County, and delivering Surplus items to the TNT Auction house. 

Whether it's on or off-campus, the department gets things moving by offering affordable and high-quality services to the clients they serve.

Spotlight on Service

In October 2022, we distributed our annual Business Affairs customer service survey. Many of our campus colleagues replied to the survey with notes of praise for our hard-working teams. See below for some highlights for our Moving Services team.

October Observances

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. Individuals can show their support and give honor to breast cancer survivors and those who have lost their battle by wearing pink ribbons and participating in community events. 

UNLV’s Employee Assistance Program partner ComPsych provides information on the different types of breast cancer, screenings, treatment, and prevention. Visit ComPsych’s website and register using the organization's Web ID: UNLVEAP to access these resources.



EAP resources are available to all UNLV employees and eligible dependents.

Campus Sustainability Month

Campus Sustainability Month is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. UNLV has gone to great lengths to make our campus more sustainable over the years.

World Mental Health Day

October 10 is observed as World Mental Health Day to raise global awareness of mental health. The main components of mental health are emotional, psychological, and social well-being. A significant change in your life can affect one or more of those areas. That’s why it’s important to take a break and assess your mental health regularly. ComPsych offers valuable resources on mental health and self-assurance.

Rebel Homecoming (Oct. 16-21) is an exciting time at UNLV! Come celebrate one of the university’s longest-standing traditions with events including:

Give Your Event a Boost With UNLV Calendar

Did you know that any training session or event hosted by Business Affairs teams can be added to the UNLV Calendar? Posting your event to the UNLV Calendar maximizes your reach and can help to increase attendance. Events will also appear in the “Today's Event” section of UNLV Today. If your area has a calendar on its department page, be sure to tag your calendar entry so it appears on your department calendar as well.

Upgrading Your Digital Literacy

Google Workspace has announced the removal of its internal whiteboarding application Jamboard. In late 2024, access to the app will be restricted and all saved data will be lost.
