Update

Hi ...

Our school year is in full motion, and Thanksgiving is closer than Labor Day. As the newness of starting back up fades, this time of year often brings a mix of days: Some that feel like a laborious grind and others that leave us energetically thankful to be an educator. I’m extremely thankful for all of the energy and commitment to the grind that you and our entire business education community brings to students every day.

ACTE offers so many things to add to our toolkit for the days that take more energy than they give. I encourage you to maximize these membership benefits, whether you check out a webinar, read Techniques, attend VISION, or participate in leadership programs. Whichever feels like a good fit for you, I hope you choose to engage.

If you end up attending VISION, I look forward to sharing the experience and hope to meet you in person.

Resources and Updates from MBA Research & Curriculum Center

MBA Research is a not-for-profit working in partnership with business administration educators.

Use Action Briefs To Spark Classroom Discussion

Classroom tools: MBA Research Action Briefs, which are based on primary and secondary research, highlight business trends and their potential impact on the workplace. Our Action Briefs also include classroom implications and questions for students, so they are ready to use for classroom discussion.

Anatomy of an Action Brief:

  • Article: One- to two-page synthesis of findings from business focus panels and additional secondary research, written for high school students
  • Links for further reading: Extra resources for deepening student understanding
  • Discussion questions: Four to eight questions that can be used for individual reflection or group discussions
  • Sources: Vetted articles used in the research process

Action Brief roundup: We’ve released six Action Briefs over the last year—did you miss these?

  • “The Growing Significance of AI-Powered Hyper-Personalization in Digital Marketing” (three-part series)
  • “The Demand for Green Skills: Growing, Growing, Gone”
  • “Uphill Climb: The Impact of Rising Costs”
  • “Short-Staffed: Worker Shortages and Fatigue”

Access now: Visit our website to access Action Briefs from 2019−2022. Educators in MBA Research’s consortium of member states have access to the entire collection of Action Briefs via State’s Connection.

Digital Marketing Ethics Case for Students

For your classroom: Our new nine-week Digital Marketing course furthers students’ understanding and skills in using digital channels and tools to promote products and deliver messages. Throughout the course, students are presented with problem-solving situations and ethical dilemmas that help develop academic and critical-thinking skills.

Sneak peek: To help students consider the importance of online reputation management, share this ethics case with your class:

  • Linemakers Sportsbook is a popular online sports betting company that has recently undergone a complete virtual rebranding. In their advertisements and on social media, the company has adopted a more lighthearted and engaging personality to fit into the digital age. They post funny jokes on Twitter, react to the latest TikTok trends in their commercials, and even “troll” other brands online.
  • Trying to lean into popular internet trends is not a new strategy for big companies, but Linemakers Sportsbook is under fire for this technique. Critics say that it is irresponsible for a gambling company to try to appeal to a culture that is typically younger and more impressionable. In addition, they argue gambling should be taken seriously, and therefore the companies that facilitate it should act maturely.
  • Do you think it is ethical for a company that offers a potentially harmful service to brand themselves in this manner? What do you think of large corporations that pander to online trends? (Ethical Principles Involved: Accountability, Viability, Respect)
