Model Curriculum Development Institutes

The CTE Online program, through the Butte County Office of Education, is partnering with local and state agencies to support the 2010-2011 CTE Online Model Curriculum Development Institutes. Download Flyer here

Innovative teachers will be paid a stipend to create highly-engaging, creative, rigorous, lesson plans to publish as statewide models of effective, standards-aligned CTE instruction using CTEOnline.org.

Selected candidates from Entrepreneurship, Accounting & Banking Pathways will join us at the Yolo County Office of Education December 9 & 10, 2010; Information Technology, Networking, Computer Technology Careers and PC Repair & Maintenance will meet in Ontario, February 23 & 24, 2011.

Teachers completing and submitting model lessons with supporting instructional materials, student work samples and assessments are eligible for $1,000! Meals and travel costs will be covered by CTE Online/BCOE, as will district reimbursement for substitute costs.

Call for Presenters & Coordinator

This summer's go-to conference is now accepting presentation proposals. The nationally recognized MBAResearch Conclave will be in San Diego June 19 - 22. There will be four types of sessions; each offers a stipend to help registered participants cover costs:
  • Pre-conference 3-hour workshops ($350*)
  • Concurrent 1-hour sessions ($250*)
  • 30-minute roundtable facilitator ($100*)
  • 60-minute poster session ($100*)

San Diego Mayor's Cyber Cup Challenge

This annual event is open to all middle and high schools in the State of California. Students will learn about Network Basics, Internet Protocol, Firewalls, Passwords, Handshakes and Safe Computing. It is not necessary to know how to program a computer to participate. Street smarts, logical thinking skills, basic acumen and team work provide the necessary edge.

November 9-11 & January 11-13: Practice rounds to familiarize students with the competition and verify computers access to competition software and images:

February 5: Qualification round to select the top 8 teams to compete in the finals round.

Practice and qualification rounds will be conducted via the Internet. The finals round will be held at UC San Diego. Teams should consist of 6-8 interested high school or middle school students and their coach.

American Computer Science League

ACSL organizes computer science contests and computer programming contests for junior and senior high school students. Now in their 30th year of continuous operation, over 200 teams in the United States, Canada and Europe participate.
