BANK OF CANADA INTEREST RATE

On December 11th, the Bank of Canada reduced its target for the overnight rate to 3¼%, with the Bank Rate at 3¾% and the deposit rate at 3¼%. The Bank is continuing its policy of balance sheet normalization.

CANADA SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM

Canada Summer Jobs is a program under the federal government’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market.


Eligible not-for-profit employers can receive a wage subsidy of up to 100% of the current provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage. Eligible public and private sector employers can receive a wage subsidy of up to 50% of the current provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage. The average student placement is 8 weeks, for 35 hours per week.


Deadline for applications is December 19, 2024.


After the call for applications closes, applications will be reviewed against eligibility and scored against assessment criteria.

STUDENT WORK PLACEMENT PROGRAM

Student Work Placement Program brings together employers, students, and post-secondary stakeholders to create quality work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities. This federal program provides employers with wage subsidies to hire post-secondary students for paid work experiences. Students in turn benefit with quality work experience so they can secure employment in their chosen fields of study.


Eligible employers can receive:

  • 50% of the wages (to a maximum of $5,000) for each net new placement.
  • 70% of the wages (to a maximum of $7,000) for each net new placement for under-represented groups, including women in STEM, Indigenous students, newcomers, and persons with disabilities, visible minority as well as first-year students.

BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWAL

Due to the national postal strike, business license renewal invoices have been emailed to any email addresses we have on file. If you have not received an invoice by email, please come to the Town Office at 1018 - 2 Avenue to pick-up your invoice. If you would like your invoice emailed, please contact the Town Office at 780-842-3381.


The deadline to pay your renewal is still January 31, 2025.


Failure to renew by the specified date will result in fines and penalties and/or cancellation of your business license.
