DOWNTOWN VACANT SPACES INCENTIVE
The Town of Wainwright has launched the Downtown Vacant Spaces Incentive to help retain a unique, well-invested downtown core where people and businesses thrive. 

The Downtown Vacant Spaces Incentive is a limited pilot program designed to provide up to $2,500.00 in start-up costs for entrepreneurs to activate vacant street-level commercial spaces in the C1 - Commercial Central District.

The incentive is available to businesses that take occupance of a commercial space that has been vacant for at least three (3) months.

Funding to a maximum of $2,500.00 per successful application may be used to cover 50% of eligible startup costs. To find out more, please view an interview with Economic Development Officer Carley Herbert or visit wainwright.ca.

We invite you to the 2024 Rural Community Health Provider Attraction and Retention (A&R) Conference!

Join us in person in Wainwright, AB from October 8 – 10, 2024 for a three-day dynamic and forward-thinking event focused on addressing the critical issues of attracting and retaining healthcare professionals in rural areas. This year’s conference theme centers on the next chapter in rural healthcare.

As the health system in Alberta continues to evolve, this conference aims to bring together healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and community leaders to reflect on the current state of rural healthcare, reimagine innovative solutions, and collectively refocus efforts to shape the next chapter in rural healthcare. By attending, you’ll have incredible opportunities to learn from industry experts, participate in interactive sessions, and network with like-minded individuals passionate about rural healthcare. 
 
Conference Agenda
Over seven speakers, two panel discussions, two evening networking events, and countless opportunities to come together, learn and share experiences with other rural community members from across the province  

Registration 
  • Early bird pricing (May 1 until July 1): $200 plus taxes and GST. SAVE $75. 
  • General admission pricing (July 1 until September 18 or sales end): $275 plus taxes and GST. 
HEALTH CARE AIDE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 30
Excel at offering in-demand, quality care as a health care aide. 

You’ll be on the front lines in less than year with Lakeland College's full-time blended learning program in Wainwright - online theory, weekday labs, and 3 practicums.

Up to $9,000 in bursaries are available from the Alberta Government to take the Health Care Aide program.
NOTICE
The Town of Wainwright will be discontinuing the Community Improvement and Consolidation (CIC) incentive and the New Business Construction (NBC) incentive programs effective June 28, 2024. If you are interested in utilizing one of these incentive programs, all permits and applications must be submitted to the town on or before the above-mentioned date in order to be considered for approval.

LOCAL PROCUREMENT OPPORTUNITIES
In order to assist local business in gaining information on business opportunities with local municipalities, Wainwright Garrison etc., the Wainwright Economic Development Office will periodically send out opportunities to businesses that are listed on   merx.com  and CanadaBuys that pertain particularly to Wainwright and area.

These are systems used by the Government for procurement of goods and services over $25,000.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT FUND
The Town of Wainwright offers funding to community groups or organizations providing an event or activity that will encourage positive economic activity in the community. Funding is made available annually through the Town of Wainwright’s Economic Development Support Fund Budget.
