On August 17, 1985, Chief Judge Emeritus A. Jay Cristol was appointed judge to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida (District). His wise disposition, prudent remarks, hilarious insights, and witty comments have made Judge Cristol a favorite of the Bankruptcy Bar  in the Southern District. Certainly, his charm must transcend to other jurists, scholars and colleagues nationally as well. His astute professional reasoning is bolstered by a candid and exceptional concern of others.

The recent changes to legislation governing service of process effective January 2, 2023, have significantly changed the requirements for commencing a lawsuit in Florida state courts. Every lawyer involved in litigating civil disputes should be familiar with these changes, so that they may take advantage of or respond effectively to the new requirements and procedures.
