2023 Legislative and Case Law Update

The Business Litigation Committee of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar presents its 2023 legislative and case law update, providing coverage of the laws that have developed over the past 12 months that you need to know for your practice. This year we are presenting on ABCs (assignments for the benefit of creditors), the Secretary of State's new procedures for protecting corporate amendments and preventing identity theft, judgment liens, changes in jurisdiction, and recent case law with an all-star cast of Sen. John Martin, Patricia Redmond, Manuel Farach, Department of State Secretary Cordy Byrd, Prof. Jeffrey Davis, and a judicial panel of the Hon. Wendy Berger, Hon. Mindy Mora, and Darren D. Farfante. We’ll see you there!

Registration is included for retreat attendees. If you are not attending the retreat, you can register to attend remotely.

BLS Annual Labor Day Retreat Registration Deadline Approaching

The BLS Labor Day Retreat returns to Ritz Naples this year September 1-4, 2023. Join us for a fun filled trip Back to the Future. As always, the family friendly retreat will offer CLE, networking opportunities, great food and fun, and ample time to relax and enjoy the beautiful Ritz Naples.

Retreat Brochure with full schedule of events.

In keeping with the tradition established at last year’s Retreat of the Section participating in a Service Project, this year the Business Law Section is working with Laces of Love. This very worthwhile organization provides new shoes to low-income and disadvantaged children and educates the public about the needs of these children. Since its incorporation in 2005, Laces of Love has provided over 200,000 kids in need with new shoes in Southwest Florida.

If you would like to participate, please purchase at least one pair of children's sneakers and bring them with you to the Retreat. There will be a collection box at the Retreat Check-In Desk. Laces of Love provides only NEW shoes to children, and, for many children, this is the first pair of new shoes that the child has ever had. All shoe sizes are needed because Laces of Love distributes to children from toddlers through high school seniors. However, sneakers in adult sizes 1-11 (boys and girls) are especially needed. In lieu of a pair of sneakers, there will be an opportunity to make a cash donation to Laces of Love.

Please also join us on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to help write messages that will be attached to the shoes being donated.

For your convenience, attendees can ship their donated shoes to:

Dal Lago Law

999 Vanderbilt Beach Road

Suite 200

Naples, FL 34108

Attendees are still encouraged to attend the service project on the day of the event. The shoes will be ready for pick up at that time.

Section members that are not attending this year’s retreat, but still want to participate in the service project, can have your donated shoes shipped directly to Laces of Love. If possible, please reference that you are a member of the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar.
