Business License Filing Deadline is March 3

The deadline to renew a Business, Professional, Occupational License (BPOL) is quickly approaching. Business owners are required to obtain a BPOL if operating in Albemarle County and can easily renew and pay online at AlbemarleCountyTaxes.org/Business. There is no fee for payments by electronic check, however, payments by debit/credit cards do have a convenience fee.

Renewal applications for business licenses are due by Monday, March 3, 2025.

The Department of Finance & Budget would like to remind business owners of the following:

  • A 10% late filing penalty will apply to all businesses that fail to file license renewal applications by March 3.
  • Businesses with gross receipts greater than $25,000 but less than $100,000, or license taxes based on a flat rate, must submit a flat license fee of $50 or the applicable flat rate along with their application by March 3.
  • Businesses with gross receipts of at least $100,000 that are subject to a rate-based license tax must pay by June 16.
