Supporting the Harrogate District: Help Shape the Economic Recovery

Work has started on a council led economic recovery plan for the Harrogate district. Continuing investment in and support for town centres will be a key element of this work.

A new survey is seeking the input of developers and land and property agents to the recovery plan. This insight will help the council to focus its efforts where they are most needed.

Moving Business from Physical to Digital: Keeping Cyber Secure 
COVID-19 has seen many sole traders or small business owners move their operations online. 

Guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre has been designed to help businesses with this digital transition and the security measures to put in place.

Reopening Hospitality, Retail, Leisure & Tourism: Plans in Progress
Multi-agency groups have been set up to review how and when business sectors that are currently closed can reopen safely.

Industry, trade union and health experts  are working with government ministers to  inform the plans, which will cover  restaurants, pubs, non-essential retail,  leisure and sports venues.
Working Safely during Covid-19: Online Guidance and Webinars
Some business sectors have started to reopen in the past week, reflecting changes to government rules on lockdown. 

Eight workplace guides and new webinars provide employers and employees with free advice on working safely during Covid-19.

Detailed guidance on recovering drinking water supplies, for building managers and occupiers, has been issued by Water UK.


Small Business Discretionary Grant to Open in June
The Government has recently issued further guidance to local authorities on the Discretionary Grant Fund. This includes details on eligibility for the grant.

The council recognises the need to get the grants to eligible businesses quickly. It is prioritising  work to establish criteria for the Harrogate district and anticipates opening an online grant application process in June.

Indie TV and Film Development Fund Launches in Yorkshire
Awards  of £2,500 to £25,000 are being offered to help independent television and film production companies create new content.  

A collaboration between Screen Yorkshire and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership is inviting applications from companies based in the area, including the Harrogate district.
 
Are you a Business Innovator? Funding to Address Covid-19
If the impacts of coronavirus have generated business ideas and opportunities, funding from UK Research and Innovation could be your next step. 

Applications are invited for short-term projects (up to 18 months) that address health, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of Covid-19.

Coronavirus Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme Opens on 26 May
Businesses with less than 250 employees will be able to claim coronavirus-related Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) from next week. Employers are encouraged to review the guidance before using the online scheme.

Coronavirus is affecting people in many ways, such as reduced income and difficultly paying bills.  Signposting to sources of support for individuals is available online from gov.uk.


The national Business Support Helpline  has  a new number, freephone  0800 998 1098.  Providing  free and impartial business support and signposting services, the helpline currently includes business   advice on Covid-19.   


Information on local services and support for businesses and residents is available on the council's website. This includes accessing business advice and support if your income has changed. 

Food Businesses and Takeaways During Covid-19
Food businesses are adapting in response to the impact of Covid-19, including offering a takeaway service and temporary closures. 

As businesses look to reopen, the Food Standards Agency has updated its guidance, covering the use of PPE and social distancing in the workplace.

Creative and Digital Sector: Expert Support for Growth
Creative and digital businesses that are looking to grow with immersive technology are invited to two free webinars, hosted by Creative England.

Offering business support from experts in the sector, 
the different sessions will consider audiences and opportunities for tax credits.

Future Fund Opens for Applications on 20 May
Backed by the UK  G overnment, Future Fund
offers loans from £125,000 to £5 million, 
subject to at least equal match funding 
from private investors .

The loans are delivered by the British Business Bank 
and are particularly relevant for businesses that 
typically rely on equity investment.
Holiday Entitlement During Coronavirus
Guidance on employees' holiday entitlement and pay during the coronavirus pandemic has recently been published. 

The government information is designed for employers and relates to employees who have continued to work and those on furlough.
