John Ashenbrener has been involved with The Chamber as a volunteer for over 20 years.  He is a Chamber Ambassador who has helped with the planning of  events such as the Evening to Wine Down Scholarship Fundraiser and Chamber Golf Outing.  John is always willing to help with membership recruitment and retention, as well as welcoming new members to The Chamber.

The Lakeshore Memory Clinic is a collaboration between Holy Family Memorial and Felician Village, and is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Institute (WAI) Dementia Diagnostic Clinic Network. This specialty clinic provides proper evaluation, diagnosis, education and management to help ease the challenges of day-to-day care and keep your loved one safe.
 
 
Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award

The purpose of the Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award is to recognize a Manitowoc county non-profit organization for its dedication to serving the community at-large.  And the winner is... The Haven of Manitowoc County

The Haven of Manitowoc County, Inc. is an organization that serves homeless men. The Haven of Manitowoc County, Inc. provides a safe environment for men willing to work to get back on their feet. Our 90-day Case Management Program assists homeless men to find employment, and adequate housing. The Haven assists guests with community resources needed to ensure sustainability and not return to homelessness.  The Haven also provides life skills education and budget counseling.

The Haven of Manitowoc County was also the recipient of a surprise donation of $1,000 courtesy of Van Horn Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Manitowoc.
 

Small Business of the Year Award

Lakeside Foods was founded in 1887 and is based in Manitowoc.  The family-owned company produces frozen and canned foods for the retail, food service and industrial sectors through 13 processing locations in three states.  Lakeside has more than 1,000 full-time employees and hires 1,000 additional workers during the summer harvest season. In 2018, Lakeside acquired Riverside Foods, which makes cheese curds, appetizers and breaded seafood; and Good Eats Co., which sells premium canned baked beans and specialty frozen vegetables.  Lakeside contracts with local farmers near its vegetable processing plants to ensure freshness from farm to table.  


Health, Wellness or Safety Award

The purpose of the Health, Wellness or Safety Award is to recognize a Manitowoc county business or organization for its focus and commitment to promoting a safe and healthy work environment during 2019.  And t he winner is... Orion Energy Systems.

Young Professional of the Year Award

The Young Professional of the Year honors a role model in career, community and future impact. The young professional receiving this award excels in their career, and has also left, and will continue to leave a lasting footprint within the community through volunteer work. The award winner is selected from the 2019 Future 15 award winners, which were honored at the Young Professionals annual banquet in November. And the winner is... Amber Daugs, Grow It Forward

Amber is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Grow It Forward, whose mission is to grow, teach, feed, and connect our local food communities.  In April of 2015, the Community Garden was built with the support of over 350 people. Through Grow It Forward, Amber is helping to connect over 600 children through educational lessons at the garden and in the schools.  Amber also created a shared-use commercial kitchen where entrepreneurs can launch their businesses or expand their product offerings.

 

Education Impact Award

The 2019 Manitowoc County  Education Impact Award  is given to recognize an exceptionally dedicated educator who impacts parents, students, or the community beyond the scope of the classroom while integrating business and community resources to enhance student learning opportunities.    And the winner is... Bonnie Proszenyak, Manitowoc Lincoln High School

Bonnie Proszenyak is the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator for Manitowoc Public School District. Youth Apprenticeship students try out careers by spending part of their school day doing hands-on learning at local employers. During her four years in this role, Bonnie has expanded student opportunities and created new partnerships with local employers. She is a member of the Partners in Education Committee, CTE Regional Collaborative, and YA Executive Steering Committee. Bonnie has also worked to bring Academic and Career Planning curriculum and events to all Lincoln students.

 
Athena Award

The purpose of the Athena Award is to recognize an individual for professional achievement and community service, and for actively and generously assisting women in their attainment of professional and leadership skills. And the winner is... Kathy Zucchi.

Kathy Zucchi is a lifelong resident of Manitowoc and has  tirelessly volunteered and served the community in both board and leadership roles and through general support. She is a  former HR professional has used her HR skills to enrich community non-profit organizations.   Her family is her true love and joy. No matter how busy her life, even prior to retirement from Red Arrow Products, you would frequently see her and her husband, Tony, enjoying their grandchildren's sporting events, plays and shows.


Joseph P. Schmitt "Speak Up" Award

Established over 25 years ago to honor the late Chamber Executive, this award recognizes an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the quality of life for citizens of Manitowoc County over a period of time.  And the winner is... Glen Tellock.

Glen Tellock is has been active on many local, state and national level boards t hroughout the years. He is a former Eagle Scout and has been recognized nationally as an Eagle Scout who rose to lead a public company.  He is a friend to many from all walks of life and has served as a great ambassador for the Manitowoc Company, Lakeside Foods and the Manitowoc community globally.

Jr. Leadership Manitowoc County -  Healthcare Day

Jr. Leadership Manitowoc County had Healthcare Day on Wednesday. They spent the day learning about the many areas of the healthcare field and opportunities offered within our community! They visited Felician Village, the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Y, Holy Family Memorial, and Aurora Medical Center. To see more photos from the day, click here.

Ribbon Cutting at CORE Treatment Services, Inc.

A Ribbon Cutting was held this week to celebrate the opening of Manitowoc's newest AODA residential treatment facility. CORE offers 16 residential beds and additional day treatment services. Attendees had the opporutnity to tour the facility and meet staff members. Pastor Chris Gilbert and Carmen Persaud, LPC, are co-executive directors.

Chamber Notebook:  Take Note Studio
 

Jessica Hanson, Director, is an early childhood specialist at Take Note Studio and provides Kindermusik classes in Manitowoc and Kohler. The Top Program award recognizes excellence in the top 5% of growing studios worldwide. The Maestro in Outreach award is given to only 20 educators who provide music classes and therapy to at-risk children and their communities.

"The Kindermusik Top Program has a mission: helping children become better learners and helping parents understand how to help them reach their highest potential," said Scott Kinsey, CEO at Kindermusik International.

Take Note Studio joins the elite company of the 200 Maestros identified as the top Educators of the over 5,000 licensed educators in the world who teach Kindermusik's music and movement curricula. Hanson began providing Kindermusik at Take Note Studio in 2006. Today Hanson teaches the learning program to over 200 families.

Hanson has a Kindermusik teaching staff of 4 highly qualified educators and musicians who provide excellent classes throughout the week for ages 0-7. Hanson and her team also provide weekly summer classes to families at their local crisis pregnancy center, as well as intergenerational music classes at local nursing care facilities.

"I am humbled and honored to be recognized in this way for our work," said Hanson, "What we do brings us such joy! We are grateful for the opportunity to impact the children of our community and the world with the power of music."

The Top Program recognizes licensed Kindermusik educators who master one of two levels in early childhood development: fast-growing programs and outstanding community service. Jessica Hanson and Take Note Studio have received both.
